This is a shocker, not just who won but the final score.

Re: Gahanna 71 - #1 Columbus Northland 45
I would consider Northland the victims of a condition called the "arrogance of success". They thought they had earned their dues to the point that no one would dare challenge them, so the players thought that the post season tournament would be a cakewalk. I watched their state championship game performance last year and was truly impressed.
To get their heads handed to them by 26 points tonight tells me that they thought that the crown would be handed to them this year. Guess Gahanna felt otherwise. What a legacy to walk away with for Sullinger and Weatherspoon, getting your arse kicked in the regional championship. That is why you play the games, and never assume that you are going to win.........

Yep, terrible legacy, winning a state championship and being nationally ranked as seniors. That's sad. Maybe they just lost to a better team on the day.

71-45, I would agree, Gahanna was the better team...This was no fluke, Gahanna is a really, really good BB team...Northland should've been prepared!

Re: Gahanna 71 - #1 Columbus Northland 45
I watched Northland play Marion-Franklin in the city league championship game a few weeks ago and thought that at times they just let down their guard and don't play hard and apparently that's what happened tonight. They are just like most of the good teams (transfers abound) but with Gahanna having homegrown kids and a much smaller lineup (and they do) I think Northland just got outran because other than the Weatherspoon kid Northland doesn't really have a lot of speed. Gahanna has relied on quickness and speed all year long to make up for their lack of size. All I know is they are undefeated for a reason and could win the state title but Northland will still be in the "National Polls" at the end of the year, probably in the top 5 and Gahanna won't get a sniff. Oh well, so much for paper champions.

...just one more reason why going undefeated in the regular season is overrated...
I wouldnt call Gahanna's undefeated record overrated. It is only overrated if you slip in the postseason.

I have seen Stevie Taylor play years ago, as fourth and fifth grader for the Columbus Gym Rats, I believe. He was legit then and he is legit now, that short, quick, young man can flat out play.

Gahanna Lincoln flew under the radar in Columbus all season due to the Dispatch's love affair with Northland. The USA Today poll will probably not drop Northland lower than 7th, but Lincoln deserves its due if it can win it all.

Anthony Jackson came to Gahanna from Westland during the levy issues. Gahanna is an outstanding basketball team that had a good plan and executed it. Just goes to show you never know come tournament time.

I just saw scalpers jumping into the Olentangy. Ticket prices just went from $50 for 300 level to $1 for 200 level 1/2 court seats for session 12. LMAO

watched Gahanna several times this season and thought they had a chance in this game but didn't see this blow out coming. Stevie Taylor and Rob Brandenburg are outstanding and IMO can play anywhere in the country. Taylor dominated Trey Burke in this game. Having seen Northland play three times this season I was under the impression that they were lazy, undisciplined and had a coach who basically rolled the ball out and said go play. They have not improved since last year, complacency seems to have set in. I have never seen a poorer coaching job and have likely never been as satisified with the result of a game that I was not coaching or playing in.
