Don't know who the new coach is but anyone with that kind of experience can help any program. From what I heard this is Coach Saunders last year and the school board made him aware of that before football season started, which I believe is a dirty way to do a person that has done so much for that school and his players. Maybe this could be his possible replacement???

I've talked to the new asst. coach, he was not looking to take over the head job @ SGHS, wanted to be around his family more and he was tired of the drive to portsmouth daily.

He may not be looking to take it but he may be the only candidate for it. I doubt too many people will be sending in their resumes when the job comes open and most of the ones that do, wont even be considered. You ask me, I think a guy with that kind of experience would be a perfect fit. Just depends on if he would take it or not.

Nobody seems to know why they would get rid of Coach Saunders, including myself. I guess they would think that it is time for a change. I played for Coach Saunders and would not have it any other way. He is much more than a basketball coach to his players. I hope someone at the board office gets their head on straight and keeps Coach Saunders as the Head Coach but that's not likely too happen.

U are kid'n me that is crazy, is it comparable to the ozzy situation that happened @ GA! I haven't kept up with sg much lately, but when he had the group of kids that went to the playoffs in football he was pretty successful in basketball by winning the sectionals. Not sure if sg has any youth coming up but seems they've been down talent wise. The problem is definitely not coach saunders i've seen his teams play and they play hard aggressive basketball.

Sounds to me like it's following the same line as the Oz situation. SG will be decent this year and should be good the following year. 3 Juniors on the team now that havesoldier Varsity since their Freshmen year. I don't know what's at the Junior High level but I know one of the teams only has 5 players on it so it's not looking very well. The TVC will be a tough row to hoe this year for the Rebels in my opinion.

SG would be crazy to get rid of Coach Saunders, he is the reason the program has had any success. I also played for Coach Saunders and he is way more than just a basketball coach to the kids that play for him. He is very loyal to his team and is like a father figure. Also if Coach Saunders were to leave I think Coach Brace would be the one for the job. I dont even know what Coach Brace's record is with the jv team but it has to be very good.

Any truth to this statement at all? I know I hope not! This man goes to a game anytime that he can, that is showing dedication to the sport of basketball not just his team. Who ever wants him out should be fired im my opinion.

Personally I think that if Gallia Co. Local Schools get rid of Coach Saunders then they all need to have their heads examined. What needs to happen if this were to be the case - S.G. boys need to remember who has stood beside them since Jr. High and turn in their uniforms and see how that flies over with the Board office.

Board office would probably be happy if they turned their uniforms in an there was not a basketball team. Athletics don't mean anything to them people. Only time they support a team is if they are good and that is just because they want everyone to see their faces.

That is a false statement. Coach Saunders was never approached by the school board. Coach Howell wasnt brought in to replace coach Saunders. Coach Saunders will be there next season. Its the most solid boys program at South Gallia so why would they change? Coach Howell was brought in because of his location and basketball knowledge. He will be a great fit for the program.

Why does the school board do 90% of what they do? Probably because it is what they want to do and don't care what anyone thinks. Same way they did him dirty in football. And I never said this guy WILL replace Coach Saunders, I said MAYBE this guy will replace him which was just speculation which also means that he may not replace him.

I don't think anyone is in the know unless you work at the school board office and you are the superintendent.
