It's a basketball tourney held at Bannon Park, a playground in Farley Square in Portsmouth. They used to have this every year back a long time ago and there was some very good and very intense ballgames played. I think they had a big cookout as well. It was a lot of fun to go and watch the games. Glad to see it's coming back.

Re: Bannon Park Classic
I watched the Classic for many years, and am glad it's coming back.......I have also officiated the games, and it is quite an experience........the officials who work regular high school games have it easy compared to working the Classic.......the games were probably more intense than any west of Rucker Park, and the fans are right up on top of you.
I remember that there used to be teams from Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Huntington, Ironton, and Maysville in addition to several Portsmouth teams........there were championship games between Portsmouth and a big city squad, and the fans were really into it........the guys playing for Portsmouth took a lot of pride in playing for their hometown when it came to beating the city teams.
I hope that the Classic brings back the 5 on 5 format.......that was the roots of the event........the 3 on 3 style is not the true Bannon Park Classic........Jimmy Stanley is a legend on the PA........especially when a sub came in.........
..........I hope he is on the mike again!!

Men's tournament....however we try to break the brackets down so one high school, one college, and two adult teams make it to the final four. It depends on the Entry's, historically high school teams has played well.
