Trojan Dave had to work.
and you are right, both schools had a full cheer block, and they had a lot of fun with each other, most of these kids are friends,so I know the talk was going on all week.

good luck to N D.

southernohiofan: Tory Horne is playing college basketball at Lake Michigan College......I think it is located in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

The remaining scrimmage schedule is as follows:

Saturday, Nov. 27........at Portsmouth........9 AM........PHS, Peebles, and maybe Wellston

Thursday, Dec. 2..........at Chesapeake.......6 PM.......PHS and Chesapeake

The reason for the early start Saturday is because of the Ohio State--Michigan game which starts at noon.

We lost all 3 quarters to Peebles...beat Wellston twice. Looked really bad in some instances, ok in others...definitely not a finished product. Our ballhandling was suspect. Our shooting was pretty flat. And our defense was iffy. All in all, we didn't have a full compliment of players. Our best player at the scrimmage was definately Dion. He had one bad game, other than that he was the most consistent. I'll be glad when we get Zaide Whitley and Mason Jordan back, and last but not least (the straw that stirs the drink, lol) Andrew Bendolph.

jgordon0315 summed the scrimmage up well........ball handling was the most glaring problem that faces Portsmouth at this stage of the season........if it doesn't improve, and the Trojans can't minimize turnovers, PHS could struggle/lose no matter who they're playing.

This 2010-2011 season could be a tale of two seasons for the Trojans........divided into halves......the first half without the full complement of players, and the second half when all the horses are out of the barn. The Trojans of now will look MUCH different come the second week of January.

We most likely will take a dip in Pfloyd's Elite 8, but the most important thing right now is to improve on our weaknesses and become the best team that we can be by tournament time.

Portsmouth won the first 5 quarters by about 25 points total........I left before the last quarter......the Trojans still did not look sharp on ballhandling, although it looked a little better than it did vs. Peebles.

Tonight PHS scrimmages at Chesapeake........if the Trojans don't take care of the basketball, it could get very ugly in favor of the Panthers.

Zaide Whitely got his medical clearance, but probably won't be able to play until the 2nd week of the season vs. Warren........he has to wait about a week before he can start running.......not certain about Mason Jordan, but it looks like he may miss at least the first 2 games also.

Portsmouth's bench is very thin, with only L.J.Adams, Trevor Brown, Robert Grubbs, and Duke Edwards available.........if Tre or Dion gets in foul trouble, the Trojans could really be in a sticky situation with not very much size or experience subbing in.

I think some people are getting a little to excited thinking this team is a state contender . Sure they have some talent and nice pieces but I just don't see AT THIS POINT the ballhandling, defensive tenacity, or attention to detail that championship teams have. I stress "at this time" because this team can be very good . I just don't see that leadership that each state championship has had. The Tubb's, Dom Mckinley, Jeff Lisath...these guys were so much more than talented players they were leaders who ALWAYS played hard and SMART...from what I have seen so far they have a long way to go...just way to lackadasical and nonchalant for me...they better step it up now because if they think they can wait until Bendolph is elgible it will be too late

that is what is so great about the pre-season, and what I mean by pre-season is all the games prior to tourny time...now do not get the idea that the season and leagues are not important---they are...As Woody Hayes used to say the only games that matter are the league,,every thing else is practice...I would not go that far but I do think the Trojans will have their best tourney this season than they have had in a long time,,not saying much since the last 6 or 7 years have been pretty bleak..but bball06 I really think you hit it on the head....the Trojans need a leader and players to step up and make it happen and WANT it to happen....wipalawalt

I hope someone steps up because right now I don't see anyone with the confidence and calming way about them to lead ( a la Pat Tubbs)...even with everyone healthy I don't see it...not saying someone can't take on that role but I sometimes think that is something you either have or you don't...time will tell...I hope maybe Bendolph has matured enough to take on that role or maybe even a Zade Whitley...I saw Zade play as a freshman at Burg and I truly feel that if a year off and this injury doesn't hold him back too much he has the most potential to lead

one step at a time,,,lets win some games, try to have a winning season, try to get passed our first tourney game, and see what happens from there.

State Champs is a long stretch, but with where we have come from in the last few years,I feel good about where we are at right now...put some winning seasons together, and you may draw more kids out to play in the future

Trojan basketball has been around long before Patrick Tubbs and will be around long after this crew of Trojans play their last games. To say that you don't see "a state contender" in the preseason is fair to say. But at the same time if you haven't been here for the journey, (the offseason, summer leagues, scrimmages, the bannon park classic or even the last few seasons) then you wouldn't see it! You can't take a portion of what the casual fan might see and say, "these guys are or aren't contenders!" To be truthful, these kids are making their own mark, so I think it is unfair to try to compare them to teams that went up against a whole different era. Patrick Tubbs is not walking through the door. but Andrew Bendolph, Zaide Whitely, Wayne Evans, Dion Mckinley, Tre Underwood...and the rest of da crew will be.

Good post jgordon315,

You are right; give these boys a chance before you right them off. There is plenty of talent here, and although preseason has not been impressive we have been without some of the key cogs to this team. I assume, and I don't know this, as I haven't been able to take in a scrimmage this year, but I would assume that Coach Collins is experimenting with some of the guys right now trying to figure out where they will fit in till the others come back, and who can play once everyone is back. I still think not having everyone from the start will make the Trojans better in the long run.

Not writing anyone off just hoping to light a fire under someone because it looks to me like they need it...I have watched these guys play quite a bit and I sure hope that winning a watered down Bannon Park Classic is not what these guys are talking about when the season is over... I agree they have ability and talent but it is nothing without effort and smarts...Again there are pieces there to do well but it needs a little fine tuning and I have confidence in Coach Collins and staff to get them ready IF they are willing to listen...Again there is some talent there but winning takes a lot more than that I just hope the kids understand it thats all
