Re: Portsmouth Post 23 Announces Roster
Baseball is not the only sport that will send athletes to the next level from this area. Regarding the boys from Portsmouth, at least three of them will be attending various college football camps over the summer, while four others are participating in basketball camps and clinics. From what I remember, frequent absences were not tolerated on Post 23, therefore these athletes are already ineligible. Portsmouth had quite a good baseball season this year with the return of coach Tipton and the maturity of several players. Josh Myers is an awesome baseball player,is deserving of his many awards, and he IS interested in playing at the next level, and probably will! Another young Trojan, Alex Coakley, was unable to play this season due to shoulder surgery. As far as I know, he is still a part of the Post 23 family and will hopefully recover fully to pitch next season for both the Trojans and Post 23.....AND at the next level. BUT just because these are the only two boys who play legion does not mean that the others are not the same caliber as athletes from Wheelersburg or from other area schools. Brennan Howard, PHS catcher, was named to SEOAL first team along with Josh Myers. The SEOAL includes teams such as Chillicothe, Logan, Warren, Marietta, Gallipolis, Zanesville, Jackson, and Ironton. This was quite and honor for Brennan as well as Josh, but Brennan has other commitments over the summer and was not able to commit to Post 23. Also, not all boys are interested in playing college sports, and tend to fill their summers with family vacations, travel, academic camps, etc. So please don't judge a group of young athletes just because the don't play legion baseball!
