Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
I do know that last year, Sam Johnston, wasn't aloud to graduate at Waverly. I have no idea why, but it was just wrong. He had to move to Chillicothe after basketball season so he could walk across the stage. Does Waverly's Board of Education have something against foreign exchange students walking across the stage? Sam was a great kid. Too bad they wouldn't let him be a graduate of Waverly High School. He made the city proud and was a great leader on the hardwood.

I would be surprised if CHS gave him a diploma either. Most schools see exchange students as a cultural experience.

Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
would have not made sense for him to transfer 1/2 through the school yr if he wasnt going to get a diploma? and i dont believe he could have enrolled in college without it. Victor didnt receive a diploma either if i remember correctly
Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
Hopefully Martin and Kelly will be 100% after their injuries in soccer and football. Krezter is ranked in the top five of recruits in the class on 2012 in the State of Ohio (3 star).
With most playing fall sports are many in the gym, lifting, etc?

Congrats to Jake for the recognition. He certainly has the size for major college ball. Wish him the best.
What about Martin? Is he getting any college attention?
Waverly will be a handful for any team with these 2 special players.

I'm not sure it's complete, but I'd like to see it as well. I think with Chillicothe dropping us we picked up Ironton at the Ironton Classic.

Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
Waverly is in a strange situation this year. They have two of the better players in Southern Ohio and another player who has proven himself. After that they have literally no one who has ever played at the varsity level to any extent.
It will be interesting to see who steps up to fill the other spots.

Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
Tigers have three veterans back in Kretzer 6'7" , Martin 6'4" , and the point guard Kelly 6': All three of these young men have played varsity basketball from the first day they walked out of the 8th grade and into high school. They have a lot of experience and the others on the squad will hustle like no other. The coaching has a tough job to blend this together and what makes it even worse is the schedule is really tough.
Look for the Tigers to struggle a little early as they try to get back into basketball shape and overcome a couple of injuries that comes with playing football (Kelly, Corchoran, Ward, Hensley, Holdren, and others along with Martin who is still battling ankle problems). If these guys buy into Travis, Willie, and Stulleys' intensity and understand that defense wins games they will be fine- if not they will learn to buy into real quick because we have to play solid defense.

Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
I see Zach Corcoran becoming that defensive banger that we need...that scrapper that keeps things fired up on the defensive end! Travis is a coach that respects that (a la Kevin Malone last year), and as bucki said, if you want to get on the floor this year, you better bring it on D!
Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
I think Defense is going to be the key this year. The Tigers have to play good hardnosed "D" without getting in foul trouble. It is going to be very interesting to see which of the younger kids step up and make a difference on this years squad. "Younger" means those who have no varsity expereince regardless of age or grade. I am very anxious to see what Corcoran and Ward bring to the court this year, looking for allot out of those two.

Re: Waverly Basketball 2010-2011
Sat Nov 13- At Upper Arlington and Westlake- 10 a.m.
Wed Nov 17- Home ZT and E. Brown - 6:00p.m.
Sat Nov 20- Home Hillsboro and Wellston - 10:00 a.m.
Wed Nov 24- At Southeastern (Foundation game)
Sat Nov 27- Home Chesapeake - 9:00 a.m.
The first scrimmage will be a tough challenge- Upper Arlington is very very good and have a Div I guard who destroyed us last year. The last scrimmage of the year we will get to see a loaded Chesapeak team, whom many say is the class of Div III.

Very true SMurray...Taylor Ward has shown that he'll get after it on D...we need big minutes from him as well!
