Wheelersburg JV pitcher pitches a perfect game
Big shout out and congrats to Freshman JV pitcher Derek Moore on pitching a perfect game this past Saturday in a 3-0 win over Greenup County's JV team. He struck out 13 in the win.
Not sure if this has ever been done at either the varsity or JV level at the Burg.
Not sure where he gets that pitching thing from. Must have come from his Moms side of the family.
Congrats Derek and good luck the rest of the season.
Burg swept the doubleheader 3-0 and 5-4.

I have played softball with his Mother and that must be where the talent comes from!

Derek is going to be an excellent player. Congrats on the perfect game, I've been around Wheelersburg baseball for the past 19 years straight and I don't remember a perfect game during that span.

Congrats to Derek on an outstanding effort, definately something to be proud of, that feat does not happen very often. Looks like Coach Estep has some pretty good players coming up in a year or two. J.V. team doing well as are both the 7th and 8th grade teams, alot of talent in baseball. Once again good job to the whole team and to Derek, keep on working hard, and good things will come. Awesome job, im sure your parents are very proud of you. I also believe he gets most of that ability from his mom as well- like hoop 22 said. lol

I'm not sure about the "perfect" games but I do know there have been no-hitters thrown at the Burg before but a no-hitter is all the pitcher can do anyway. The "perfect" game depends on the other fielders playing a "perfect" game, too, unless the pitcher strikes out every batter he faces. Even then, you could have a passed ball by the catcher on a third strike and the runner could reach base on that error which would ruin a "perfect" game. Also, if a pitcher walks or hits a batter it is no longer a "perfect" game. No hits---No runs---No errors = perfect game.

Talked to a few parents that were at the game, and it was 21 up, 21 down, 13 strikeouts, no errors, no hits, no walks, no pass balls,
no wild pitches, no hit by pitches, no base runners. A few routine plays and a couple of really good plays , they said that Austin Nolen made a nice play in right center to catch a fly ball hit there, they said he went a long way to get it, and also Ben Arnold had a nice play at 2nd on a looping liner, and the last batter hit one up the middle that Derek dove and smothered, got up and threw him out to preserve the PERFECT GAME. And you are right it was a total team effort. Just sounded like you were trying to school everyone one on the meaning of a perfect game Bigorangeone. maybe i took it wrong sorry if I did. Once again great job.

Congrats to a fine young man! I am sure Derek will continue to work hard on his game. A special thank you to all the defensive players for making plays to keep the perfect game intact. Best wishes to and continued success to the entire team.

Sorry if it sounded that way JB. I, in no way, intended to hint that the young man didn't have a "perfect" game or that you folks didn't know what constituted a perfect game. I was just responding to Yabbas question about whether it had happened at the Burg before and was pointing out that I know for a fact that no-hitters have been thrown at the Burg before but not quite sure if all the other criteria had been met (that I pointed out) to constitute a perfect game in those cases. In reality, I wasn't even referencing this young man's game but was more questioning myself as to the status of games past and trying to answer Yabbas question.
My heartiest congratulations to Derek on a fine accomplishment.

but i figured it was all good from you, thanks for clarifying.

Congrats to Derek, not surprised at all when he is not on a field somewhere, he is out in the yard passing with someone and has been since he was old enough to walk I think. Great young man, with a great baseball future ahead of him. Go Burg!
