Marietta is and always be a football town. Win or lose the stadium is always packed. The sports that are winning year in and year out (soccer, volleyball, etc) barely get any attention. The attention football gets is more negative than positive lately but it's still attention. As a former player and on one of the only teams to win a league title, I would love to see them do well, as I also know over half of the boys that are playing now.

But instead of the people that go to complain about the boys, coaching, play, etc; use that energy to go support the teams that are winning now. Your energy would be better used in that manner.

"Marietta is and always be a football town. Win or lose the stadium is always packed."

Not sure I would agree with that one the past few years. The games I did come to the last few years were not attended well at all. Heck even the Warren game this year had Warren fans filling up one third of the home stands. Maybe in decades past they packed the place but not in recent years. I did make a trip up to a boys basketball game at Marietta and the gym was packed.

As far as other sports getting attention, I can't speak at your local level but around southeast Ohio I know coaches and media members have the attention of Marietta athletes. Many of those have earned District and State honors.

I will also disagree that negative attention is still attention. I would think all that does is divide a community, school, and team. If you look at quality programs around the state they have support in all those areas. The community must realize that schools go thru times when the athletes are not there or are not playing a particular sport. Both of those can hurt the record of a team and sometimes maybe the kids in the other uniforms are just better than the ones on your side of the line of scrimmage. It doesn't mean they are not trying as hard or deserve any less support. Parents and the entitlement attitude are killing many sports at many schools today. Me or mine the heck with the rest, I am right and you are wrong. Participation in sports is not required by the state of Ohio to graduate from high school, sports are to enhance your experience and to hopefully learn some other lessons.

pitt87 is right unfortunately, Marietta has not been a football town in a while. Opening week draws a good crowd, homecoming okay, and Warren, but many of those are Warren fans. I remember a couple of years ago in an early season game against South the home stands were almost half South fans. Other schools will also tell you that we travel poorly for football but a lot of that is attributed to the distance involved in the SEOAL.

What will make it a football town again and have folks talking about Tiger football in the restaurants and on the streets, positively? Winning. Hopefully that is not too far around the corner.

I'm not taking away anything from the sophomore class because I know they work hard, but everyone has such high hopes for them. They were 5-2 last year, 3 of the wins were against the same team. Playing with each other in pee wee is totally irrelevant to anything. Besides, they were playing against each other not with each other. About the whole spelling ordeal, if you're going to make a point you might want to sound at least somewhat literate to be taken seriously. Oh, and if you think that any of the sophomores on defense are better than Gaskins, you're sadly mistaken. He played 4 plays total on defense and is probably one of the top three defensive players the Tigers have right along with Leach and Baker. Leach also didn't play but half the plays, he was healthy other than the cramping at the Warren game(he had no problem in the Parkersburg game). I didn't say the kids I mentioned weren't playing either, I said they should be getting more oppurtunities on both sides of the ball. Stewart has absolutely torn up special teams and JV, he deserves a shot somewhere. Spur played very well in the Ripley scrimmage on D and all of sudden didn't get any more oppurtunities other than offense. Miller didn't play at all, and he's not hurt either. By the way, the defense you're so fond of, yeah, it allowed 307 points in 10 games at Cornell under coach Eichhorn. Stellar! Or how about when they were players? 1303 points in 4 years (40 games). I will give them credit, the offense somehow scored enough points to get them a 10-30 record or a 2-8 record as coaches. Yes, the defense could be a good and effective defense IN COLLEGE. This is high school football, this defense will not work here WITH THE QUICK GROUP OF KIDS WE HAVE. They blew assignments last game because they can't remember the plays because of how diverse the defensive playbook is.

Don't really care for the offense or the defense but love the kids. Good luck in Gallipolis this week! Springer has his issues but I KNOW he loves the kids and will do anything for them. Hopefully, he and the other coaches will open their eyes and make some needed changes. As for playing time. Gaskins is limited because of a knee injury. Kimbrough has heat issues that tire him quickly. Leach is a great player but has trouble in pass coverage. Spurr is a good player but may lack some speed for corner or OLB. We could go on about every player on the field. I wish the best for all the players in the program from 7th to 12th. Go Tigers!!!

mhsfootballfan has a very valid point, all the kids on the team are practically good kids. Hopefully, this week the Tigers get a W! However, Gaskins begged the coaches to play defense, he does not have any injuries problems, it was a misdiagnosis and he was fine 2 days later.

Nice post 1987 tiger. Your a tuff dude taking shots faceless. I've nothing to hide. That's why everyone knows me. I'm with the program still cause the board, AD, bob and anyone important ask me to be. So I'm honest and open to everyone by not hiding behind my screen name, I don't have to agree with bob that's the country we live in. You also have the right to call me fat and hide nameless. I would have been more clever with the name calling but we can all see what sort of person u are now. Free shots name calling, no facts. Yep I'm a trouble maker and you have it all figured out. Let's teach our kids to hide, call people unoriginal names, try and bully, then do all that but anonymously. Who wants them standing up for something and pointing out mistakes. Great plan. By the way that pm I sent you is waiting.

I have known bigcatmarietta for a long time. First and foremost he is a good person. He cares deeply about Marietta football and the kids involved. He has given many years to Marietta football as well as both a player and coach. He has a great football resume, including time here in Marietta, South Carolina and Florida as well. He has been a varsity assistant on playoff football teams in Florida. I have sat with him on many trips in the equipment van while I was still coaching here at Marietta. He is knowledgeable of the game, the kids, and was always realistic about the ability and capabilities of his players. He is not a trouble maker, just not afraid to speak his mind. He knows the kids in the program and probably has a good idea of who should be where and doing what.

We just need stop using this as soap box to spout off every time we feel we need to get something off our chest. If you h ave feelings that strong about an individual, get on the phone or better yet have the conversation in person. Not here on a message board. We are all entitled to our own opinions, need to respect others, but this is no place for name calling and character bashing.

Thank you shenk11. always a true friend. I think the world of every child on the team. I don’t think the staff behind bob is bad, i think there is allot of knowledge there. I SUPPORT MARIETTA AS A PROGRAM AND THE KIDS!!!!!!!! I disagree with some of the choices the head coach makes. That is part of this game, part of being a Head Coach, I don’t hate the guy or even dislike him personally. allot of the people that all of the sudden don’t like me, when i read past post they are complaining about the past coaches, that’s seems funny since i am all the sudden a trouble maker. What does that make them. Having the same complaints i have with this Coach, it was ok then but not now?. Ill agree with Schenk11, ill not post thoughts any more. since its ok for others to say what they want, but not me because people know me, fine. its so funny that the same people hiding on here, are the same people that find me in the stands and laugh at bob. I tell them all i love the kids, but just disagree with play calling. Good luck tigers.
