You can take it to the bank that I never had a conversation with a single baseball kid to get them to quit. In fact, PM me and I can give you the names and numbers of plenty that I talked to about playing baseball? To say otherwise is untrue. Give me a call if you'd like to discuss this issue or our floor. I'd like to have a nickle for every time that I've cleaned it. The floor can only be TREATED in the summer because nobody is allowed in the gym for two weeks following the treatment (fumes). I would not lie to you and I have nothing to hide (my name is on the screen).
Myself, as well as Coach Janet Day, make ourselves and the gym available within OHSAA guidelines to allow our players to develop their games. Janet's volleyball record is nothing short of astounding and I commend her and the young ladies for all their hard work. Most of her players play club out of season and off-season work in basketball and baseball are equally important to those respective sports. Questioning what she has done for the volleyball program is unwise. I am unaware of a more successful program anywhere in southern Ohio in any sport. Success always has a price.
I have lost 2 quality basketball players the last 2 seasons that wanted to work on baseball during basketball season that could have greatly helped my team. The players made that choice and I commend Coach Martin for making himself available to work with them during basketball season and the players for having the drive to set a goal and stick to it. I feel no ill-will toward those players (quite the opposite) and certainly not toward coach Martin because those kids wanted to focus on his sport? I have found that if a kids heart is not in a sport (especially basketball because of the length of the season), then the team must move on without them and fill that void. In a small D4 school like ours, we need the best athletes to play most sports. But, you will always have specialists and our job as coaches is to give them every opportunity to improve their skills.
I know nothing of coaching baseball , but I do know someone that puts the time in when I see them and Martin certainly does. I hope all this mess sorts itself out. I wish Coach Martin the best.

Well I heard today through the grapevine that Martin will not be returning to Eastern as the baseball coach. My understanding is they have recommended his assistant. Once again our administration has ran off another quality coach. I just hope the new coach will be able to put the time in that coach martin has given to the eastern baseball program? I wish coach martin the best as well as the new guy! Players i wish you the best in 2011.
Who was the assistant. Also there is only 3 kids playing pony league and no one playing legion from Eastern. Hard to turn around the program if the kids dont play in the summer.
Thoughts on Martin no longer being at Eastern? Understand they hired his assistant who is also the band director. Not sure if has ever been a head coach, anyone know?
Ever since the Eagles won the District title in '06, they have been steadily going downhill. The Eastern team they put on the field this past year, was very, very young. All the can do it improve.
