Wrong on the play-in games. They were moved to this Saturday at 1. I know because our coach just let the girls know that Chillicothe's DH vs Unioto had to be canceled to allow for the Vinton Co. v Chillicothe.

Re: DII SECTIONAL ~ MAY 12 & 15
I know that the Gallia folks are grouchy from the seeding slight, but I'm staring at the typed bracket sheet that was brought back from the sectional meeting today in Jackson. It clearly states that VC is at Chillicothe on May 8th at 1 as well as Court House at Hillsboro the same day and time. I'm quite sure that Coach Phillips wouldn't have already canceled the DH with Unioto if that wasn't the case.

It's all been changed around. Play-in games on the 8th, first round games on the 12th and then the 19th for the second round (the 18th for the North). I know that in talking to coach Phillips he voted for Warren for the 1 seed and was shocked at the Athens selection over Gallia and Warren. Oh well, win and advance so....go get em girls.
Re: DII SECTIONAL ~ MAY 12 & 15
Pretty unfair, if seedings hold, that Warren, underseeded at #2, would have to play #3 seeded Unioto at Unioto. At least Warren would have the strategic advantage, I would hope, of batting in the bottom of the innings.

Warren beat both GAHS and Athens this year; although the Warren-GAHS game was played way back in the first week of the season. Im sure both teams are better than then. GAHS won the SEOAL South and Warren the North and these two will be playing at Warren this coming Wednesday for the SEOAL championship.
Athens is enjoying another successful season under coach Sheila Ross. They represented the South sectional at the district last year and have built on that by winning the TVC this year along with 15 wins on their resume. Warren beat Athens last Friday 5-2 at The Plains. GAHS and Athens split a DH played in Gallipolis on April 24 with the Bulldogs winning the opener 2-0 on a 1 hitter by Jane Seymour, and the Blue Angels coming back to earn the split in the second game 15-5.
Warren is 16-5, GAHS 16-6, and Athens 15-6. Those should be the top three seeds. Waverly usually puts a strong team on the field and the last time I saw they were 12-7, but I havent personally seen them play this year yet. I would say those four will get the top four seeds in the South.
Meigs, at around .500 from the TVC, should get the 5 seed and play the four seed. GAHS beat the Lady Marauders twice this season; 6-2 back on March 31, and 16-0 this past Wednesday. Marietta's young pitching has been decimated with injuries accounting for their uncharacteristic record. GAHS took two from Marietta; 8-3 in Gallipolis and a 10-0 mercy ruling at Marietta. Chillicothe is probably the most improved team in Southern Ohio, but still it will be between them and Jackson to decide who plays Vinton County (2-18) in the play-in game and who plays the 2 seed. Jackson ended a 32 game SEOAL South winning streak enjoyed by GAHS earlier this season 5-4. It also ended at least a 14 game winning streak the Blue Angels had amassed against the Ironladies. That is as far back as my personal records go.
Ive been to enough seeding meetings in basketball to know that things dont always turn out the way the records would seem to indicate. And I shouldnt have to elaborate as to what I mean by that statement.
Our (GAHS) seniors are a large part of what is thus far a 55-18 record the last nearly three years. We've won the SEOAL South all four years, the SEOAL last year, and the sectional in 2008. What is missing from their bar-raising careers is a district win and championship. Hopefully that will be all the motivation they need, but in truth even that may not be enough because even at the district level you MUST get solid pitching, airtight defense, and situational hitting to push across enough runs to win and keep playing.
One off day in any of these areas, or an opponent who plays lights out, and the season is over. I guess what has me so excited is that over the last seven games for GAHS, we are 6-1, have pitched 4 shutouts, 3 mercy rule wins, and have outscored our opponents 55-9 in the process. I'm hoping the girls can keep that up for a few more weeks.
A little help from BLUE goes along way in the close ones!

Awesome
I guess those seed meetings are a joke after all!
Re: DII SECTIONAL ~ MAY 12 & 15
And the shame of it is that the deserving #1, Warren, instead of having homefield advantage until neutral kicks in, now has the disadvantage of the team they are playing having and undeserved home field advantage! I assume that Warren will get to bat in the more strategical advantageous bottom of the innings.

After a 2 1/2 hour bus ride. This game should be played in Jackson or Athens.
Re: DII SECTIONAL ~ MAY 12 & 15
Could aways end up that way until go back to allow teams to place themself in the bracket based on seeding. right now with seeds placed, coaches can plan before they go in, but if i could go against anyone left on the board, I may vote for teams differently. If someone does a team dishonest, that team could choose to play them in spite of lack of respect or just match up better against that squad.

Yeah, I realize this but in the case of a team getting to play on their home field for a neutral site game, maybe there should be a stipulation that the game be moved to a true neutral site. Anyone who wants "all things being fair" for games of this magnitude would have to agree.

Re: DII SECTIONAL ~ MAY 12 & 15
Several points GAHS.
Notice on the scores that you posted of Gallia's opponents in the tourny that 3 runs was the highest scoring output. We are def. in tourny time and that means pitching rules. Pitching always rules in softball, but never more than in the "second season"
This is what has made Rylee Bouillion of Chillicothe so special as a 14 year old freshman. In the two tournament games against Vinton Co. and Athens, she has thrown 14 innings, given up 5 hits, struck out 10 and walked 2. Both of these teams may have their problems but they both are hitting teams.
As far as the Unioto site is concerned: Chillicothe is thrilled to be at Unioto. It amounts to a home-game for our girls and fans. The push is to get 200+ to come out and support the Lady Cavs in their miracle season. Sheridan won't be intimidated and could care less that the game is at Unioto. This will be a tough out for Chillicothe but anything is possible when you've got a pitcher throwing lights-out.

Chillicothe has one senior. Not seniors. Also, they have only one junior.
