I'm just curious why a team that finished near the bottom of the division would be the odds on favorite? I personally don't see it.

(1) Southern- All returning scorers, will be tough to beat.
(2) SG- All returning scorers, big boys down low. No quit attitude.
(3) Wahama- Athletic but not a lot of depth
(4) Waterford-Young team but returns some depth from last years squad, always tough to win here in waterford.
(5) FH-Still very young team with sophomore's last year receiving significant amount of playing time reminds me of eastern when titus, mikey, kelly were sophomores when they took over as seniors.
(6) Trimble- Good JV Group will compete.
(7) Eastern- team is down a bit, will look to improve
(8) Belpre- just very young, no scoring threat, down years to come.
(9) Miller- up and coming could finish at 7 but you got to prove you can win. coach bremer has them in the right direction.

1 Southern-only lost one player from last year. With lots of Srs back in Roseberry, Martin, Roberts, Hill, Ginther, Custer, Taylor
2 Wahamha-tough place to win. Should be led by Lee and Gibbs
3 South Gallia-returns a lot of Srs Haner,Matney, Matney, Ellis
4 Federal Hocking-should be improved. Saylor, Hatfield, Rex, Parsons
5 Trimble-lost a lot of key players. Returns Hooper, Jones, Auflick
6 Waterford-lost six players to graduation.Return West, Offenberger
7 Eastern-lost six key players. Return Carnahan, Heaton, Bissell
8 Belpre- young team
9 Miller-should be improved with six players returning.

Good breakdown, gona be a weak league with no big time scorers. I bet there will be alot of games with both teams scoreing less than 50 points.

I think our league will do all right, they always do come tournament time. I would say you are probably right about low scoring games but a lot of that has to do with the style of ball most of the coaches in the Hocking play.

Belpre will surprise some people and will play a lot more heart and a lot more disciplined this year, I saw South Gallia play twice last year and I was not impressed at all, I don't see how they will win games at Belpre, Waterford, Fed Hock, Wahama and Southern

A lot of the teams have lost key players due to graduation which is a problem S.G. did not have to face. Returning all 5 of the Junior starters from last year - Matney, Matney, Haner, Ellis and Nolan. They will be very strong in the inside and with Haner shooting from the outside this team with be tough to beat. I have heard that Nolan has worked on his game over the summer and has been hitting the weight room along with Haner and the Matney twins. Phillips will bring a lot of power to the team as well! Looking forward to an exciting year with the Rebels!

We didn't watch the same South Gallia team. Very good team they got better after the loss at Belpre. No offense to Belpre there are just isn't enough talent right now, I am sure they are good kids and I am not trying to knock them but compared to everyone else they will be down in terms of the conference this year. Federal Hocking is the same with Rex, and Skidmore gone. Those 2 and Parsons accounted for the scoring.

I thought Nolan played all summer with River Valley? If so why would South Gallia play him over the kids that played for South Gallia?

This stuff goes on every where now days Fred. Todays coaches for the most part will play who they think the most talented players are. It is all about winning now. Summer ball means nothing to most coaches even though they say it does. The days of coaches and players being loyal to their school are long gone in high school sports.

Nolan has good athletic ability certainly but tends to play "out of control" a bit. He did play summer ball for RV but he is going to school at SG. Don't forget that Lambert from RV transferred to SG and is an EXCELLENT outside shooter and has a high basketball IQ.

Southern has an excellent freshman there last name Wolfe that I coached in AAU ball last year as an eighth grader. He is the starting Varsity QB on the football team and I promise he will be a factor on the basketball court as well. He played in the summer league in Jackson, keep an eye on that name in the future.
