Amanda Cleercreek levy fails again

Post by 85inside »

This is the third time this has failed. I talked to the Amanda Athetic director lst evening, (we graduated from college together) and he told me that if the levy failed kids would have to pay $500 to partcipate in athletic programs. How long before our school districts here on the river will face the same issues?

Keep us posted of the final vote count. Hopefully, for the kids sake, it will pass.

Best regards from Belpre.

Considering the state is facing another half a billion shortfall on its projected budget, not long for everyone in the state. Some schools might be lucky to keep the doors open, let alone keep sports even pay to participate.

I don't see how the state can let schools close. May have to let schools go back to borrowing money to ride the storm out. It would be terrible to let all sports go. Most families will not go the pay to play route as I think they will go open enrollment to other districts that don't have pay to play.

The state has to address the school funding issue for the sake of the kids and the taxpayers.

Easy, consolidate or close. What you might see is a bare boned version of school, bus, homeroom, 7 periods, lunch, go home. No extra curriculars of any kind.

IMO, school has morphed into a more social setting than actual place of learing. It needs overhauled, but not in this manner.

How many school levies passed the other day? 1, was it Reynoldsburg maybe? Here at Piketon, our district has shaved 1.4 million from its budget. There is still some that can be cut that isnt union, but when that happens be ready for the crap to hit the fan, and we are pretty well off.

As for your government hope, yeah I wont be holding my breath while Farmer Ted and the rest of the cronies in Columbus think of ways to help us out. Matter of fact, check out some of Ohios Congressional mandates coming down the pike. More work being added to schools, with money cuts! UMMMMMM, YEAAAHHHHH that makes sense! lol

Circleville passed a school bond issue in the election. Circleville will build all new buildings on one campus site - a consolidated elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. I think it will be near the current Circleville High School.

That is also a trend with new school constructions -- building all schools at one location. Nearly every district in southeastern Ohio that has built new schools in the past decade have built them all on one campus.

^ The Circleville issue is currently up by 12 votes with at least 40 provisional ballots to count so it is not official yet. There may also be a recount with the small margin.

I feel it was a waste of money to build 4 new schools in Pike county. Should have built two and consolidated the 4 schools Better opportunities. Waste of tax $$$$$$. same in Adams Co.
In Ross should have consolidated into 3 schools.

Is this levy for new schools, operational budget or athletics? Most levies are specific to what the funds can be used for. What ever it is for everyone need to "remember in November" at the polls. Ohio along with most other states are cutting funding for education and putting the burden on local residents to support our schools. Priorities should be made clear by the voters. "We The People" are not being taken serious. We are being taxed to death federally and locally.
Now DONT TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY, but when it comes to athletics and pay tp play, fund raising can go a long way. I was coaching at a southern ohio middle school and the high school coach came to me wanting money out of the MS athletic boosters fund to buy new headphones. (which the MS wasnt going to get to use, we would get the old set) . We had just started the boosters program and funds were not abundant. I offered to take my players to one end of town and have a car wash if his players would go to the other end and have one. He didn't want his players having to work for "equipment and stuff". Well, I offered. He did eventually get to buy the headsets. I dont know where the $$$ came from. The HS stadium was also in need of repairs, and 2 or 3 times an athletic bond levy has failed. The original stadium was built with volunteers, blood, sweat and tears many years ago. But no one is willing to "work" to get the kids a place to play. Finally, with help from the BOE and community the stadium was spruced up with some new paint, lumber and locker room improvements. Many in todays society want a free ride. But those who dont have kids involved are not willing to pay more taxes. We are being taxed to death. Don't give up on the kids. In the pee-wee programs it is all volunteer and donations that support the athletes. Roll up those sleeves and dig in deep........ you can keep the kids on the court and on the field.

It's even sadder to think if that levy passes, those parents will have to pay those types of $$$ for ever. Their kids will
only be playing sports for so many years, an income tax levy will never go away.

It's funny, 1 year ago the school Superintendent had a plan that cut the A.D. position if this levy failed this May. One of the 5 principles were going to perform the A.D. duties. Now that it's failed he's changed his plan, the pay to play will pay the A.D.'s salary. Most people in Amanda are fed up this type of money management.

90% of a school budget is made up of Salaries, and Fringe benefits. Amanda is the 3rd highest paid district in Fairfield County, behind Pickerington, and Lancaster. Not bad for a school trying to get into the Southeast district, because " We're more in line with those schools socially "
