I'm not sure if anyone's brought this up before but there are plans to renovate Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta.

Re: Don Drumm Stadium
I heard that Marietta College was either going to start charging or charge the school district more money to use the field.
Re: Don Drumm Stadium
In December of 2003 Marietta City School transfered ownership the stadium to the Port Authority and then the Port Authority immediately transfered it to the college to take over control of the stadium. An agreement had been met between the city schools and the college for MCS to use the stadium rent free for 10 years. After which the college can do as they wish, continue rent free, charge or whatever. That will be coming in a 3 years. There are many rumors floating around about the details of the new agreement. It has been RUMORED that the college could charge in excess of $50,000 a year to use the facility for varsity football and track and field.

Re: Don Drumm Stadium
I played a few games down there way back when it was grass, but it is a nice stadium and I hope that the college doesn't decide to charge MCS at all.
Re: Don Drumm Stadium
That would be a great gesture but as likely as the Pioneers going 10 - 0 next season.

Re: Don Drumm Stadium
Don Drumm has been an issue in Marietta for over 80 years. Ownership has shifted between the city, the city schools and the college many times. The Marietta City Schools paid all of the expenses to maintain the stadium for 15 years or so prior to the transfer. The schools were paying IN EXCESS of $50,000 annually to maintain the facility. The agreement transfered ownership but included continued use of the facility as it was in the past into the future. As Schenk said, the college has paid all of the expenses since the transfer.... including $1 million plus for the playing surface and track. Marietta athletes have benefited immensely from the transfer. Now the college is making even more improvements ($3.5 million) for the benefit of all Marietta sports....college and high school. I know that the benefactors of the college would not have given a penny toward Don Drumm without ownership by the college. After ten years the maximum cost to the schools will be what they were paying prior to the transfer. Not a bad deal.... get multi million dollar improvements, continue use at the same level, and not pay a dime.

Despite a rough start, things seem to be going pretty well there during the regionals. I don't think anything beats a Pioneer Baseball game at Don Schaly Stadium
