My prediction is between Eastern and Clay. Both teams have a lot coming back.

From what I have heard, the league is Eastern's to lose. Staker, Roe, Fitch, and the strong soph. class mixed in should be too much for anyone else to handle in SOC1.

Eastern beat ND both times and beat Clay once last year. Should be some good games to watch this year.

I would have to say Eastern has the best chance to win. Last year, the Eagles were without Staker against NB the first time. With her, they won. And they lost to Clay in the Districts last year in a tight game.

Curly hands down right now best player in SOC 1..Katie Stevenson if hadn't been hurt would have even been better after playing AAU over the summer, but still a top forward/center. Freeman is a good ball handler and can shoot. It all comes down to if the high school coach wants to play freshmen and win or succumbs to pressure from outside the program. I have seen curly take alot of talented players to the bucket and she can shoot, Clay should be the favorite, but like Sider says it is all about coaching...

falconburger,

Clay has an excellent coach who will play his best five players regardless of their age. They also had a pretty good team last year (district finals) and all of their starters are back this year. I'm not sure if I see a lot of varsity time available for the younger girls (with one exception).

Sorry about that, it was Redden that I was meaning...Great kid, can shoot the ball all over the floor. Like I said, it takes a strong coach to play his best players to win, and at the highschool level that is what it is all about...if you are looking for a deep run in the tourny, you prepare early..

Clay is definitely going to have some talent coming in. The freshmen will just need to get used to a little quicker pace and physicality then junior high. Curley and Redding are going to big contributors coming out. I think once Curley gets more comfortable and takes the shots (which she can shoot from anywhere) then I think her confidence will boost and she'll control the tempo for Clay.

IF , IF clay has better upperclassmen than Curley then they should go undefeated in SOC play.

clay has everybody back from last year and also the Jenkins girl from West who is a good player. Unless Curley and Freeman have grown some they will both have problems shooting over Jr and Senior girls from other schools such as Eastern,Notre Dame and New Boston but I have not see either girls since last year. Clay junior high team beat most of the teams last year but some of them only had combined teams with 7th graders on the team. Not a lot of competition with SOC teams for example scores such as 69-7 ect. Curley is going to be an outstanding ball player in several sports in the years to come but i hope they do not hype her up so much as some of the above threads above have her as the best player in the league and if the coach lets the freshman play they will go further in the tournaments. I hope they win the soc and do well but don"t break up a team that went to the regionals last year and everybody is returning. Are Curley,Redding and Freeman better than Clays returning upperclassman?

I've watched Curley play for several year now, and as long as she stays aggressive she will be fine. She's not very tall and not the quickest, BUT she can shoot the lights out of the ball and sees the floor better than any girl I've seen in a long time. She's not just a scorer but helps her team in a big way by keeping possession of the ball by being able to dribble very well and contributing in assists as well! I don't feel Freeman will play very much unless she has gotten quick, stronger, and a better ball handler. Redding has definitely improved over the past few years and you can't replace height.

I won't go as far as saying that Curley is the best player in the league just based on the fact that she has not played against a single varsity team yet. But I do expect great things in years to come from her and am excited to see it!

maybe a clearer statement (IMO) is that if they are good enough where she doesn't see significant minutes then they are very very strong.

I have watched curley and coached her, I have seen her light up older, taller players on many occassions. I heard other coaches from other AAU teams want to get her, she can take over games when she is pused to do so, and she has a tremendous vertical for a girl, I have pic of her shooting over taller girls at a national tourny a few years ago in chicago, and scoring 29 points against a very fast and atheltic group of girls, so trust me if she is given the chance and the encouragement I believe the SOC 1 will be very impressed by her..but once again it always comes back to coaching..sorry to say alot of talented players get held back by coaching and friends, so it is just my opinion..

Manitou Dan, it sounds like you are downing the Lady Vikings before the season has even begun. Yes, the Lady Vikes lost four starters from last years team, but their all district and soc point guard returns along with 2 others who played alot of varsity last year. They also have some talented freshmen that will help out a great deal also. There is a mixture of talent and maybe more youth than veteran players but none the less can still be competitive. I guess we will have to see for sure. Not sure why everyone thinks ND will be such a strong team, maybe you know more than anyone else does about them. I think Clay and Eastern will be the teams to beat and I think the rest is up for grabs. But I guess we will have to wait and see, after all that is why we play the games! Good Luck to all the SOC teams this year!
