Southeast District Records Date Back Only to 2007

Post by RUNRV »

I was checking out the results from both Division 2 and 3 at Oak Hill, and I believe the oldest district record listed is from 2007. Is this right?

They only count the records since the meet has been held at Oak Hill. I meant to ask the meet director if they would add in the district records from Fairland and Rock Hill if I pulled those out for them. There are some really impressive records from the past. I doubt anything that was run today would be a record if they did that though except maybe girls' pole vault and possibly boys' 4x200m since those are newer events.

Older records should be added. The Regional Records in the program date back to times before the Division II meet was held at Meadowbrook. Some were set at Zanesville.
Many of the state records for Division II were set at Dayton or The Horseshoe when the meets were held there.

Oak Hill can list many of those records as stadium records but not District Records.

I think we all need to give Kristin credit for making the effort to get the records started. This is something that neither of the other two district sites in the southeast have done (and several others across the state). Kristin created the records from what little information she had to go on as nothing was provided by either the district board or the previous meet manager. A couple of coaches have already submitted written proof to Kristin that will replace some of the records that are listed now. Please send your record corrections to Kristin and I'm sure she'll do her best to get them sorted out, verified and corrected.

When the district was at Fairland, they had a list of district records. I may even have the list some place at home but it does mean digging out paperwork from 5 years ago. But it would be nice to see Jonathan Dunham's 47.9 in the 400m back in the record books. My intention was to look once things start to wind down and send her what I have.

I don't think anyone is criticizing what Oak Hill has done, but people have been observing that the records are of a limited variety.

Wheelersburg's Chris Slusher ran the 300 hurdles in 39.2 in 1997 at Ironton. But his record was never added to the old record list. Rex Pyles of Wheelersburg or Burt Wood of Gallia Academy probably holds the discus record.

I think some places have faster tracks, so it would be hard to compare the records on different tracks.

State meets have been held at three+ different tracks in the past 20 years but they still keep records for the meet.
