At the end of the track season team awards are given out. What awards does the team give out the awards and what do they use to determine who gets what?
A sprinter can compete in more events than a distance runner or a thrower so is points fair. Should there be a field events award and a running award. Who is better a discus thrower who wins most of the meets or a high jump long junp person who is usually 3rd in both events.
Do you let the kids vote for the awards or does that become a popularity contest and the desrving athlete get left out in the cold.
On a positive side, all league, and district selections are easy to figure out.
what awards does your team give out and how

Track and Field athletes have the hardest time becoming All League and all District. You have to win your event. In Football everything is so political and by the ballot. In some league meetings its "If you vote for my kid I will vote for yours". Team with best record gets the most picks and it moves on down. We used to give awards and they were based on the amount of points scored in the season. The smartest thing they ever did was getting rid of those.

agreed on the all-league stuff
the weak leg of a relay team of 3 studs will be all-league but an individual that gets 2 2nds, 2 3rds scores 28 points isn't all-league........that's smart
Last year I had no all-league athletes......but 3 all-district
I do a most points for each boys and girls and a peak performer for each...some years I have a MIP instead of teh peak performer. We also give away 3 year and 4 year plaques.

South Webster has an awards banquet for their sports, and this is where the awards are handed out. In track we have trophies for high point sprints, distance (800 and up), jumps, and throwing. Sometimes there is a MVR award in the case that a standout athelete is stuck on 2 or 3 relay teams and doesn't accumulate a lot of individual points. There is also a "coache's award" which is rewarded to the leader of the team, aka another "coach".
I personally think this is the best way to present awards, and feel that these awards are all fair.
