Another reason for the TVC to consider inviting several more larger schools and then going to 3 divisions.
The schools in the TVC Ohio better get used to this because this is how it will be 9 out of every 10 years.

Many TVC teams played Athens before they joined the league and had a lot of success against the Dogs...Just beacuse Athens is on the up and up for a few years at the same time they join the TVC doesnt mean it will continue. They will be more competitive in the TVC no doubt...but they wont sweet the league every year.

Here we go again. Now you guys want a separate division for larger schools in the TVC. Guess what????? A large school division already exists. It's called the SEOAL.
Mister B your last statement is so true.

BIG FISH ...........small pond.........get used to it.
Re: Athens won at least a share of every TVC title except one
Athens had a great senior class this year it will not be that way next year
Re: Athens won at least a share of every TVC title except one
If Athens will dominate the TVC now that they are in the TVC...Why didnt they dominate TVC teams before they joined?
Re: Athens won at least a share of every TVC title except one
I find it hard to believe that Athens had such a great class of seniors that it spread across the board through both boys and girls sports and allowed them to win 9 outright conference titles, share 2 more and finished second in the other.
Sheer numbers will give them titles in 5 sports almost every year, boys x-country, girls x-country, boys track, girls track and wrestling.
Success breeds success. Kids want to play for a winning program much more than they do a losing program.

Yep, many of us on here have stated numerous times on various forums about this happening. Athens will win the all-sports trophy 90% of the time until _ _ _ _ freezes over unless some changes are made. The conference wanted them, now they got'em. At the same time though, this will NOT help Athens at the tournament level by any means.

I agree, the bullpuppies could not compete with schools there own size, so this is what happens when a schools cuts and runs! Hear it now! Athens will have very little success in tournaments!
Re: Athens won at least a share of every TVC title except one
Athens will have their way in the following sports on a consistent year to year basis
Track
Baseball
Wrestling
Cross Country
Golf
Maybe Softball?? I must confess I don't follow this sport much.
Athens will not consistently dominate the following sports
Boys and Girls Basketball
Football
Volleyball
And guess what folks... Those are the "biggest" sports that draw the crowds and pay the bills. So before we crown Athens the sports capital of southern Ohio, why don't give them about 4 years in the league. Their first year in league play they didn't do nearly as well. Last year they had an excellent group of seniors. Don't jump to quick conclusions over just one year.

Nelsonville-York is building one of the best Wrestling programs in the state so you can't say that Athens will dominate wrestling every year.
But you are right that Athens isn't going to take over every sport in the TVC-Ohio!

Athens has more and more talent coming up over the next several years. They will reload, again and again.

VC beat Athens in basketball 98-40sum in the last meeting before Athens joined the TVC.
Athens lost to Alexander a few years back in football. (while Alex was in the middle of a 0-30sum TVC-Ohio streak.
Athletes come and go. If Athens is going to dominate like some say, why didnt they dominate before?

Re: Athens won at least a share of every TVC title except one
I don't think Athens will continually dominate in the big ticket sports of football and basketball (we all are aware of Athens' lack of success against NY in football, for example), but Athens will most likely dominate many of the other sports for the forseeable future.
For example, most of the TVC schools don't have enough girls participate in cross country to even qualify for a team score. I think only 3 or 4 schools have enough to even qualify for a team score. That isn't even taking into consideration if those teams are even good or not.
In track & field (boys and girls) and boys cross country, many TVC schools barely have enough participants to qualify for a team score, leaving only a handful of schools who could realisticly have a chance at winning a league championship, without accounting for how good those teams actually are.
In wrestling, most of the TVC schools don't have enough wrestlers to qualify for each weight class, thus making it difficult to win a league championship against a conference team who does have enough wrestlers. Case in point would be this past year. NY finished second to Athens in wrestling. The Buckeyes had very dominating wrestlers in many of the weight classes they could fill. But NY simply could not fill each weight class. There were not enough wrestlers to go around. Athens dominated in wrestling because they had wrestlers in each weight class and didn't have to forfeit weight classes. If a wrestler is injured at NY, in many cases there is no one else that can step in at that weight class. In the past, NY almost always challenged for the TVC championship in wrestling and won it on several occasions, but that was because every other TVC school had the same problem as NY -- everyone else had to forfeit matches too, so it kept the playing field more balanced.
I am not complaining, as I have always been a fan of having Athens in the TVC. With that, you always have to take the good with the bad and weigh the pros and cons out against each other. I still think it is better for the TVC to have Athens as a member. We just have to realize that in certain sports, Athens will always have a numbers advantage over the other schools. I do not see anyone other than Athens winning golf, cross country, track and field, or wrestling titles for the forseeable future.
If NY can get its numbers up in wrestling, that would push NY back to the forfront with Athens, and I'm sure other league schools have the same hopes for their stronger programs. Many TVC schools did not play Athens in these sports, as football and basketball were about the only exposure many TVC schools had to Athens when they were in the SEOAL. Athens will win more football and basketball titles in the TVC than the SEOAL, but I do not anticipate total domination in those sports like I anticipate in other sports.

Re: Athens won at least a share of every TVC title except one
I don't buy the whole big fish small pond arguement at least in football. If that were the case then VC would have dominated the TVC before Athens joined. But, instead Nelsonville the second smallest school in the divison and starting this season with the departure of Belpre the smallest school in the divison wins a share of the league title and even beats a 9-1 Athens team last year. Meanwhile, VC continues to struggle at football. It isn't about the size it's about who's more talented(sometimes but not always)better coached and better trained to play football bottom line.
