Portsmouth Clay 9 Symmes Valley 8. Final

Post by Nine20four »

The Lady Panthers battled from behind four times but would not be denied! Emily Spriggs rocks one into the gap in right center for the game winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh. Clay was down 2-0, 5-2, and 8-5 but showed grit and determination to pull it out. Clay plays Strasburg Franklin in the regional final Saturday.

Congrats Panthers! Good luck on Saturday against the Tigers! A win produces the 10th trip to the state tournament for Clay.

Congratulations to the Clay Panthers-a great group of young ladies who very few people, including myself, believed in at the beginning of the season. You never give up! Keep it up Saturday.

Vikings-three classic softball games with Clay this year. Great season and best of luck in the future.

23-7 and a regional final is not bad for a small-school team starting 4 freshmen (c, ss, lf, cf), two sophomores (p, rf), two juniors (3b, 2b), and one senior (1b). Plus they have only two bench players. The one thing the Lady Panthers have that can't be coached is heart. They don't get down on themselves when they don't play well defensively or when they fall behind. When they do play good defense they can play with anybody. Great job Panthers! Go get 'em Saturday!

Hard to find out much about Strasburg. Defending state champions. Their HS website lists a schedule of games but no results are listed. They have 18 players on their roster comprised of 4 seniors, 4 juniors, 3 sophomores, and 7 freshmen. I know they have two strong pitchers (Gerber and Clark) that rotate at second base, they use a DH (Stockert), and the write up in the paper after their 2-0 win over Danville quoted the coach as saying their catcher, Smith, took a foul ball off the middle finger of her throwing hand but that it isn't broken and she should be able to play.

Strasburg, probably the best in D-4. MD, you could say they are the Cincy Doom of D-4 softball. But I believe Clay can play with anyone, tomorrow they have to play perfect. What a great opportunity for Clay to compete against one of the best D-4 teams in the State and possibly one of the best in any division.

Clay girls have alot of heart and it seems to me it's one of those special years, anything could happen.

Good Luck Lady Panthers!!!!!!

MD, I know Cincy Doom is a travel team, just trying to compare them with Strasburg's ability. They are that good.
