I think its difficult to judge each team during the summer. Most coaches try to explore many combinations on lineups etc. I remember one time someone mentioned that they thought Chillicothe was going to be terrible after they won the state. They said they watched the summer games that they played in and wasn't impressed at all. That same team won their league, sectional and district championship. Portsmouth has the talent to beat Chillcothe but do they have the coaching because they haven't beat the Cavs in a very long time? I do know this league would be a heck of a lot better if Ironton and Zanesville were still in the league to matchup against Portsmouth and Chillicothe.

I definately agree it would be nice to have those two still in the league. As far as the scrimmages are concerned both Chilli and Portsmouth had their key players in for the majority of the games and the Trojans gave us more trouble. Im not saying this is concretely how the league will shape up its just an assessment of what I have seen from both teams so far.

With those two in the League, this would be one of the best basketball leagues in the state for schools around the same size. Sure would be nice but they both chose to do what was best for them.

I totally agree, datchillicav.......I wish Zanesville and Ironton were still in the SEOAL......it would be really tough to win the league outright........in fact, when Chillicothe won the D2 state title in 2008 they didn't win the league.......Zanesville beat the Cavaliers on the Day of Champions at CHS and thus won the SEOAL.......but I don't think CHS fans would trade their state title for an SEOAL title.

Since the expanded SEOAL 5 years ago (and now the shrinking SEOAL), no team has gone through undefeated........Zanesville lost to Chillicothe one year on the Day of Champions at ZHS, while Ironton's lone SEOAL defeat last season came in the final league game at Portsmouth 63-60.

I think it will be very difficult once again to navigate through the SEOAL with an unblemished record, even though the league is not as tough as it was when 10 teams were battling each other.......and I remember in Portsmouth's first year in the SEOAL that we finished 10th when we lost to Athens on the Day of Champions at Logan.

trojandave, the Cavs went undefeated in 2007 and 13-1 in 2008. So since the expansion they are the only team to go undefeated in the conference.

southernohio13: I stand corrected......thanks for the info........wasn't 2007 the year that Zanesville was supposed to play at Chillicothe but it was postponed due to the weather and was never made up?.......then on the Day of Champions, Chillicothe won at Zanesville to complete their undefeated league record?

Chili wins with Portsmouth 2nd. Warriors could place 3rd if the right supporting cast is placed with the 2 studs! But the studs are gonna need to play alot more Team than usual because of the strength of the league and other studs in league that will matchup with them. See warriors winning another 12-14 games but have potential to go far based on senior leadership of these 2 studs but could hurt them if their egos get the best of them. Should be a fun year to see how they blossom together. A good and strong JV crew coming up to help but again depends on how they gel together....Good to be back as always and cant wait to hear from the great town of Happyville USA..Vincent. THE SUN COMES OUT TOMORROW! ;-)

No they didnt split that yr. cavaliers beat them twice and went 13-0. 2008 they did split each team winning at each others home court.

Practices start either today or next Monday I believe. So what do some of you think will be the starting lineups for the schools you support?

I'll start with Chillicothe. I think it will be,

1-Manion
2-Ragland
3-Johnson
4-Djacic
5-London

, with Elliot and Beverly and a couple others seeing significant time off the bench.

There are several possibilities for starting lineups for Portsmouth, pending the Andrew Bendolph eligibility decision by the OHSAA.

If he is eligible, this most likely will be the starting 5:

Andrew Bendolph 5-11 12
Wayne Evans 6-1 11
Zaide Whitley 6-1 11
Dion McKinley 6-5 11
Tre Underwood 6-4 12

If Bendolph is ineligible (the OHSAA denies his appeal):

Wayne Evans
Zaide Whitley
Lenny Collins 5-9 11
Dion McKinley
Tre Underwood

Or a 3rd possibility:

Wayne Evans
Zaide Whitley
Seth Bratchett 6-0 11
Dion McKinley
Tre Underwood

Fivecoait was a starter, but he has since graduated. I'm sure he will be missed

Ranger, that could be a combination to hit the floor at some point. I'm not sure who it would be against, maybe you should elaborate on the rest of the team, and why you choose this line up.

im taking warren with a 17-3 record. Losing one to marietta(at marietta),one to Chili and one to Pourtsmouth. All three on the road. Undefeated at home. There ganna squeak by fort frye in both games but will pull them out. Hasties ganna have a lights out season, backing up AC. Watch for Tyler Wards tremendous outside shooting and Grant Venhams powerful inside rebounding. Theyll pull off a few close ones but still win the league this year and continue on to regional semifinals and lose once again.
