2010 VINTON COUNTY VIKINGS OUTLOOK?

Post by VIKED_MAN »

What is to be expected out of the Vikes this year?
They have a boatload of young talent. Not a lot of size, but very fast, and know how to play and win. They should have the schools best place kicker since Kevin Caudill graduated in upcoming freshman Austin Johnson, a great kid and a pleasure to coach.
They say the new coach is a nice guy; you know what they say about nice guys. I do expect the Vikes to finsh at the bottom of the TVC Ohio this year, but to show inprovement.
Throw some of that young talent around Adam Ward and Joe Batey, and see what happens. The line could be Ok, but not dominating, on both sides of the ball.
The big issue is how do they replace Andy Grillo! Well they can't. It's how they adjust without him. Of course the new coach doesn't know he is proberly the player that meant so much to a Viking team since Jason Snider early '90's and Ryan Caudill late '90s.
Ward might be too valuable to play QB, Maybe Matthew "Chewy" Smallwood will be ready. I think they need to get the young kids some experience and be ready to compete the next few years.
That's just my thoughts, I really hope they do well.

I expect improvement with the hiring of Burleson.

Although he and I have not seen eye-to-eye on everything, I will give credit where credit is due. He will definitely have the kids lifting which will make them stronger. burleson has a way of getting people to buy into what he is offering which will bring excitement to VC.

Get behind him and support them.

Burleson always has a strong team. He is real big on his weight program.

The option attack will be a good thing for Vinton County.

The addition of coach Nicholson to the VC staff as an assistant will greatly aid the Vikings' offensive efforts. Nicholson and Burleson work well together.

VC will be improved this season. Line play will be the biggest key to that. VC has always had good skill position players and that hasnt changed this season. The line is where VC has been hurt in the past and with what ive seen so far this offseason, VC will be much stronger as a collective unit and imo will surprise some people this fall. The kids are behind Coach Burleson and there is more excitment for VC football this year than in the past few years. VC may not win 7 or 8 games this season but they will show everyone they are on the right path. New coach, new scheme, new look to the schedule, and 3 of 5 conf. games at home. VC football will be back....sooner than most think.

Good luck to Burleson and the Vikes this season. Things in VC on the gridiron front have been very quiet. It will be interesting to see how things come together.

I wish them the best and would like to meet the new coach.

Oh my God... to say that other than jason snider and ryan caudill, andy grillo meant more to a vinton county team than anyone else is a huge bash against many good football players in v.c. history. And to pin point out Jason Snider and Ryan Caudill alone is a terrible statement. I can name double digit athletes that should be talked about quite often but that will never happen because they do not have the last name.

Guys this debate has no point. Even though I do agree with louie. VC football has been way more than two players. Dont discredit all those who played.

I agree with Louie too. I suppose he just did not understand the point I was attemptimg to get across.
I was meaning what Andy meant to this team the last couple of seasons. In other words, the Vikes need to rely on more than one player to get the job done! I am by no means forgeting the great ones from throughout the years. On his team, Andy was like Beatle Ward of the late '70s teams. Basically they were the only offensive weapons on their respective teams. There has been some great players at VC some my kin, but they were good athletes on great teams with an excellant coach. Look at it this way; how would those Viking teams had done withouit Jason Snider, more importantly the team of the late '90s without Ryan Caudill? They may have been ok, but these players made them better.
I mean no disrespect to anyone at least to one of my Vikings. The group before was loaded Ryan Stewart, Ben Batey, Dut Guthrie, and so on. If memory serves, they had one season over .500.
Mainly, I hope they improve. Get better for the future because they have the talent to be very competative in the very near future.
