Your school's best two classes head-to-head
I just posted on another thread I'd like to see Logan 2000 go against Logan 2009. What other school classes would you pay to see go head-to-head in their prime? Let's hear it! Why? What would be the outcome?

I would like to see the football team of 1964 from Logan go up against any undefeated team at Logan.

No contest, 89 would have last years team by at least 3 td's, to much size for last years team to handle.

I would like to see Marietta's 1959 team take on the 2001 Tigers.

I would like to see the undefeated Greater Ohio League 10-0 1953 Portsmouth Trojans take on the undefeated 10-0 2000 Portsmouth Trojans.......the 1951 team had what some consider even to this day the best all around athlete in PHS history.......Leroy Carr......went to Ohio State on a football scholarship.......and jumped center for the basketball Trojans despite being only 6-1.

In a match up with the 1964 team vs 2000 I would give the edge to the 1964 group. the 64 group had a very good O-line and 3 outstanding backs.
1964 22
2000 17
1964 22
2000 17

The undefeated class of 1964 would have hate the clock up, stopping the 2000 and 2009 teams from getting the ball so much. They would have worn them down.
1964----30
2000----20
1964----28
2009----27

Logan fans, the 63 team wasn't to bad. I think the 63 team could have beaten the 64 team.

one would think as far as ironton the 79 state champs vs. the 89 state champs. but i've heard it said that bob lutz said perhaps his finest team was the 78 tigers , who i believe went undefeated but did not make the playoffs , because they did not get to play logan, because they were on strike. back then they only took 2 teams. that would have been my senior year, but i was not playing, i blew my knee out the end of my sophomore year. but they killed everybody.

How about the '81 team Tigerbait, another Ironton team that went 10 and 0 and never made the playoffs.

The 63 team did drop their 1st two games
1963
Hummel--745 yds four TDs
Brenning--520yds 5 TDs
Johnson---359yds 9 TDs 33 out of 85 passes for 571yds and 8TDs with 4 ints
1964
Brenning--1214yds 12TDs
Hummel--756yds 4 TDs
Brandt--355yds 4TDs
Gasser--229 yds 14TDs 23 out of 46 for 349yds 6TDs and No Ints
Steve Mowery was 1st team All/Ohio
The defense had 6 shutouts with only one team scoring more than one TD and getting 15 ints

Tobias: Thanks for the correction.......I had the wrong year.......obviously it was 1953 rather than 1951.......and I remember some people talking about Curt Gentry playing on that team as well.

I hope this will not bite ironton in the butt this year. Back in 78 the game with ironton would have been a real battle. We did lose some good players from our 77 team, but Bob Boyton then head coach was developing a very strong team when that ulgy strike happened. We loss a season, an outstanding coaching staff and most of all a good chance to beat ironton for the second year in a row!
Re: Your school's best two classes head-to-head
Did you old Logan guys have a memory lapse? What about the 1977 Logan team?
IMO.. the Scott Gasser and Mark Armstrong combo was the best they may have
ever had along with a team that was very solid at all positions.. I would put them up
against all Logan teams except the 1964 team....
