Program of the Decade 1990 to 1999

Post by ohbuckeye2 »

We have a thread for the 80's and the 2000's, how about the 90's.

Thoughts on the best Southeastern Ohio Football Program of the 90's????

Ironton had a couple of bad seasons in the 90s but I think the following is true:

state finalists 1992
state finalists 1993
state finalists 1999
state semi-finalists 1995
regional finalists 1990
regional finalists 1991
8 playoff appearances; playoff record 14-8

not too bad in my opinion

Portsmouth was pretty lean in the mid 90's but were still a little above average considering their schedule, no where near Ironton or Burg though.
59-40 Regular Season
0-2 Playoffs
59-41 Overall
2 Playoff Appearances

Jackson did have a pretty good decade of football during the 1990s. It's hard to match up with Ironton and others, but the Ironmen were very good during that time period. They won 8 or more games in all but two seasons and 1993 was the only season in which they didn't have a winning record. Jackson won outright or shared the SEOAL championship during six of the ten years during the decade and made three playoff appearances, advancing to the regional final in 1996.

1990: 8-2
1991: 6-4
1992: 8-2
1993: 4-6
1994: 8-2
1995: 8-2
1996: 10-0 (11-1)
1997: 9-1 (9-2)
1998: 9-1
1999: 8-2 (8-3)

Regular Season Record: 78-22
Regular Season Winning Percentage: .780
Overall Record: 79-25
Overall Winning Percentage: .759

Just as long as Ironton - Wheelersburg keep playing. This has turned into quite a series since it's inception. A lot of "slobber knockers", they way it oughta be played.

You need to keep in mind that for the most part Ironton was a BIG OLE DIV 4 team while Wheelersburg was a LITTLE OLE DIV 5 team....and in 1999 LITTLE OLE DIV 5 Wheelersburg defeated a BIG OLE DIV 4 Ironton team that went on to play in the BIG OLE DIV 4 State Championship game..... but Kantuck and TigerBait will you that divisions make no difference.

DA BURG never won fewer than 8 games in any season during that decade and won a total of 93 games..... and they didn't play any cheap schedules either. After all, they do play the mighty Ironton Tigers don't they (and SEVERAL other higher division teams). :)

DA BURG was also winning state championships and playing in state finals and semi-finals in baseball and basketball during that same decade.

So, even though Ironton won the football series 4-3, as far as PROGRAMS go I'd have to go with little ole div 5....... DA BURG. :-D

Hey, why are you lumping ME with TIGERBAIT?! I wouldn't have ever done YOU that way!

Accoring to Irontonfootball.com, Ironton leads the series 14 - 5 and you can BANK on it being 15 to 5 before September ;-)

THAT'S why I lumped you in with TigerBait. Just waiting on the two of you to start your annual "We're gonna win the state championship this year. This is the year" bragging any time now. I have already seen some such ramblings on a somewhat lesser scale. (The boasting has already started as seen in red above).

AND... YOU are the one that writes Irontonfootball.scam, so who do you think believes that bull is accurate?

What if I told you that DA BURG won NINE conference championships in the 90's while Ironton won.....

ZERO !!!  (would that influence your vote) ?

(How about a money bribe) ?
