Very true. Portsmouth was very good, back in the day, as well.

According to Wikipedia Ashland has 11.

Don't know if it’s true, after all it is Wikipedia.

I have been informed that Ashland has TWO state titles recognized by the KHSAA. We could debate the merits of the others... but in my opinion they are as valid (or not) as, for example, the Ohio state titles in football claimed by Massillon; none of which is recognized by the OHSAA.

Sorry for going off topic, but mentioned in the above referenced Wikipedia article is the fact that Ashland has a NATIONAL title in basketball (which I had known for a long time). If memory serves, it was won in an invitational tournament in Chicago(?) around 1929. The "best" (according to whom, I don't know) high school teams in the country participated. I am speculating but I think maybe Ellis Johnson played on that team (yes, the Ellis Johnson as in Morehead's Ellis T. Johnson arena). I know he graduated from Ashland around that time.

Well, I think the main thing to remember is that them Fighting Tigers are going to wear 'em out. You KNOW Ashland is going to come out from under Tank Stadium with a little swagger they ain't had for years...let's hope when they leave, they know they have 19 years of bad luck coming their way again.. ;-)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------for the record my friend, i've never said that. ashland has always hadda fine team, just not so much like the last 19 years. but they have a huge city, for our area , to choose from. i look forward to another fine tilt between the 2 this year.

Definitely that game was dominated by defense, as I recall.
