2010 Outlook:
The last time the Marietta Tigers won the SEOAL crown it was with a disciplined running game from the Wing-T. New head coach Craig Farnsworth hopes to rekindle that success by bringing back the wing-t this fall.
Farnsworth, a disciple of Parkersburg (WV)'s power running game, won a state champion while at PHS in 2001.
The Tigers will be short on numbers, but not on talent as Matt McKitrick and Morgan Wynn are experienced athletes in the backfield. McKitrick will move from quarterback to halfback where he should see more touches in the Tigers wing-t offense. Wynn is a two-year starter and will be versatile as both a runner and receiver from his wing back post. Junior Billy Moore is the leading contender for the fullback post. Justin Futrell is the likely starter at quarterback.
Mitchel Gearhart, Trey Littleton, and Eli Parmiter will all see time at split end while Dustin Baker will be a reliable target at tight end after catching 19 passes for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns last year.
Up front, Conner Hess will anchor an offense line that also returns Keifer Johnson at center. Sophomore Tanner Leach and senior Adam Baker will be the guards.
Defensively, Gearhart, McKitrick, and Wynn are returning starters in an experienced secondary. Futrell, Littleton, and Parmiter add depth in the backfield.
Hess will move to linebacker from the defensive line where he will be joined by Baker and Moore.
Up front, Johnson and is a returning starter at tackle while Baker and Leach will be the ends. Tim McCauley adds depth on the interior line.
The Tigers have a tough non-conference slate as always that includes Parkersburg, Cambridge, and Zanesville while competing in their final season as members of the SEOAL. While a championship is a long shot for the Orange and Black, if they could make a run at .500 it would definitely be considered a successful first year for Farnsworth and staff.

Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Marietta Tigers
This years tiger team has made great strides in the off season. And they continued the pace through June. 2010 will be a tuff year again. Numbers will be low. I look for coach Farnsworth to have all the players in the best positions, to help the team succeed. A new look tiger team. Kids playing positions that truely benifit the team. Team first this year and the kids are buying in. Tigers will compete this season, lack of depth will be the issue in the latter quarters of games. So the above projected line up will be brand new. Team first this season. Tigers will be building upon that. A good close group of kids. When I have more time I will fill in some more peices to the projected line ups. August 14th scrimmage - home VS Come support this years tigers and see the new look.....

Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Marietta Tigers
Its difficult to find a more disappointing team in the SEOAL than Marietta. Years ago, they had a wealth of athletes there and were always competitve. Now ?
In looking at the schedule, the only thing that is positive is playing what should be "down" teams from Morgan, Cambridge and Chilli. Does that mean wins? Lets put it this way -- my outlook this year for the Tigers is anywhere from winless to at best 3 wins. I don't see many games that they will be in unless you count the coin flip.
The swan song in the SEOAL final year will probably be ugly. Frankly, while travel may improve some in the ECOL, they'll get their butts kicked something awful there too.
Farewell Marietta. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

big catmarietta, this is what happens when a school cuts and runs! I do think marietta will be in for a very rough time for a long time in the ECOL. At least you guy's are leaving for another league, unlike another former member of the great SEOAL!

Paladin, I have always respected your knowledgeable (truly) posts, but I would a little more class from someone who puts a Logan helmet as their avatar.

One of the joys of getting older is speaking your mind and cutting out otherwise BS. I never pull punches here, good or bad. I always had great respect for Marietta & their athletes, but its become a dumpster program, with much thanks going to the community for putting the program where it is now. I have expected better from the Tigers. Truly a disappointing situation.
I have no idea what your idiot leaders down there think they are doing. Going to the ECOL is one of the dumbest moves I've seen in decades in H.S. athletics. It, top to bottom, is a stronger league than the SEOAL, with more quality teams. Frankly, your program will be embarassed and the kids will not find much success there. Thats a shame.
Thanks for the compliment, but don't think for one moment that I wouldn't rip into Logan if they were deserving. Having played & coached there gives me more incentive to be critical when need be. Good luck because you are going to need it.

Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Marietta Tigers
Point taken, Paladin. You are knowledgeable. However, a Logan helmet should be backed by a positive outlook. Pessimistic views haven't made the Chiefs what they are. Especially in 'reloading' years like our next 3-4. Being humble creates the possibility of someone else being cocky for you! ;)

Wow, a little excitement on this thread since my last post. No matter what, I support these kids year in and out. Things will change, as we all know and will take time. I will support them no matter what.

Why is Futrell starting at QB over McKitrick?
McKitrick almost had a .500 completion % close to 1000 yds passing and 7td passes and Futrell only threw the ball twice all year.
Was Futrell suppose to be the QB last year and was hurt???
Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Marietta Tigers
New offense this year. Matt is a great athlete and will be better to use his talents else where in this wing T version of Farnsworths.
