Post by buck&blue »

Looks to be a good group----about 25 kids-- good talent and depth at skill positions,,, not sure about depth along the lines ---Could be one more talented groups to come through in a while IMO

I counted 27 kids at practice last week. Hopefully this group of kids stays together because they have some very good athletes and pretty good size.

The middle school fall sport meet the team is tomorrow night at 6:00 PM down at Memorial Field.

Their first game is Sept 1st against Athens at Memorial Field.

Go Devils!

Seems like a really good group and hopefully these parents will stand behind their children enforcing the need to work hard through the years regardless of pt in jr high or the positions they are playing right now. It isn't what they are doing right now that equates to success at the upper levels, it is solely how hard they work. If parents are second guessing the coaches then the kids pick up on that and the numbers drop rapidly year after year causing small sr classes and poor varsity teams. Parents need to be more old school and tell the kids to get out and work harder to earn a spot or pt and not complain when little johnie gets overlooked. Hopefully this group of parents is more old school and pushed the kids leaving the coaching to the coaches and the end result will be hard working kids with a team attitude working toward a common goal and most importantly high numbers at the varsity level. Strength in numbers. The kids playing now may not be later due to various reasons, grades, ability, work ethic, or just simple laziness. The kids on the bench now may be in the headlines in high school.

:-D Yes they do look promising. May go watch them a game or so. Heard the parents got banned from the practice field for getting involved with practice. IDK for sure tho.

^^ That is correct, the AD made the call. The 7th grade football was the only group that allowed parents to be present at practice and that is all sports 7-12. That is a start but today's parents (and I am one) are all guilty of making excuses and letting kids off easier than "our" parents did and their parent did to them. Hard work pays off and need to be encouraged at home. My big point is that parents need to tell these kids the importance of teamwork and numbers within a system and encourage them to keep working and playing whether they are the "star" or not. Everyone practices and practice is the most important game of the season and where all the improvements are made.

This group, if they keep the numbers and keep working, could be really special this year and beyond.

Not sure who will be at QB,,,,they were working with four,,,now down to two,,,plenty of talent at QB, RB etc------The play of the line OL and DL will be the deciding factor on how successful this team will be ----

They have some good size especially in the backfield. Also have some excellent individual talent but really need to come together as a team with a common goal rather than every man for himself. The backs are fast but none of them have what I would consider exceptional speed.

Other than three or four "delay of game" penalties, Gallia's 7th graders looked pretty good in Wednesday's 14-6 win over Athens.

Probably should have won by at least three scores, had one drive that went almost the entire length field only to fumble it away---
Need to clean up the penalties,,,,turnovers etc....I would like to see the coaches make better use of talent on the bench, some players being used at multiple positions while others with pretty good talent barely played at all.....

i counted 5 or 6 fumbles atleast. no passing game. backs trying to stiff arm there way thru the line of scrimmage instead of lowering the boom on much smaller defenders. couldnt get out of the huddle about 10 delay of games. the pieces to this puzzle havent been assembled correctly imo  coach cant keep everybody happy :!: no way this group stays together not the way some of these kids are getting overlooked ;-)

I agree 91blue14, there will be no 8th grade team if this is what we can expect for the remainder of 7th grade season. These kids are going to be so discouraged they won't want to play next year :(

gahs4ever you are taking this thread the wrong way. No one ever said there kid would quit if they didnt get there way. In fact we have always taught our children you sign up you play till the season is over. But if they have a bad experiance or dont enjoy it anymore they will not sign up the following season "THATS NOT QUITING".
What it is also saying is that if my "Johnny" goes to practice everyday and puts in the time, then he shouldnt be standing the sidelines the whole game because coaches choose to play the same kids both ways with an additional sub here and there. No one ever said a thing about losing a game either, if our children are getting playing time were (kids and parents) ok WIN OR LOSE. It's VERY discouraging for a child to put his time in and then get to a game and basically be told your not good enough your not going in.
I believe there are several kids who stood there weds night that were all just as good as some of the ones played both ways and theres no excuse for that. Some of these kids need this time to really learn and to get ready for high school ball, but not playing is not teaching them a thing. And I think the numbers speak for themselves with the 8th and 9th grade teams this year :(.

Lost a very winnable game. GA did'nt wake up and start playing until about the middle of the third quarter (18-0 at that point). Seemed like we only had the ball about 10 plays the whole first half and most of those were fumbles. Still no passing game. There is no excuse for having so many center and or QB issues at this point.
