Jaylen prater

Post by X8XOHIOLEGENDX7X »

Was just reading that he already has an offer from Toledo and has been contacted by penn state illi and ohio state.

Pretty cool a local kid getting this kind of attention as a junior

For what position? I know he is playing QB now, but he is not a true QB. He is a runner, and more than that he is a LB.

Hard to believe he is a junior, that kid will be tough next year.

He would have to have a phenominal senior year to even walk on at bigger schools. Look at Marcus Williams from Ironton.....he was a BEAST in high school as a RB and the best he ever did at Ohio State was special teams and some carries late in the game while the game was in hand.

NOT taking anything away from Marcus at all...it is an honor to just play at a big school and be on the team. But I think Prater will be headed to a small college IF he has a solid finish to his career at Wellston. I think alot of schools look at speed, strength, etc but you have to have the stats to back it up. I think NY is saying that up to this point, he really hasnt had the stats. He was hurt alot of last year and really shares the load with Osborne at Wellston so there isnt going to be 1500 yd rushing seasons for him there.

Getting contact and getting offers are two totally different things.

I think Prater COULD be a MAC level player, without knowing his true HT/WT and 40 time. Those three things really make a difference. If he has the measurables, he could be a MAC level player.

Regardless, he is a great high school player and should be celebrated for that.

Anymore what you do in games is almost secondary to what you do in camps. If a player shows well and grades well at camp he will get looks.I am willing to bet that is where the contacts were made.

you could get your three year old girl letters in the mail from big ten schools if you wanted
send a letter to the school telling them you are interested in playing there and they will send letter
they mean nothing

Ok heres some small articles i have found.

Jim Tressel’s first goal in recruiting each year is to lock down the state of Ohio. It never hurts to get a head start toward that goal and the Bucks have done just that in getting in contact with star sophomore Jaylen Prater<<<FROM BUCKNUTS

The Penn State staff is putting the finishing touches on their 2010 recruiting class. Joe Paterno's group of 18 commitments is currently the No. 1 class in the Big Ten and one of the country's best.

With so much of his 2010 recruiting completed, Paterno and his staff are working on their 2011 class having already extended scholarship offers to several juniors.

They are also working ahead towards 2012. One such prospect they are already in contact with is linebacker/running back Jaylen Prater from Wellston, OhiO<<<FROM NITTNY NETWORK.

Jaylen Prater - Wellston - 6-2 218 lbs - Prater jumped onto the radar last year when Mr. Bucknuts released his Top Ten Freshman to Watch. Prater started at LB for Wellston as a freshman and caught the eye of college coaches which gave them a reason to visit Wellston. Prater is a thickly built MLB that reminds people of an "old school" type player that "brings it" anytime anywhere. Shows some athletic ability running the ball on offense and translates that ability to defense quite well. Dominates at times and makes big plays on both sides of the ball AFTER HIS FRESHMAN YEAR FROM BUCKNUTS

Im just saying no matter what any 1 else has to say this is great for a kid out of this area. correct me if im wrong But big time angle, walls, and other such great players from the area did'nt even have a small mac school offer as a junior.Im sure players around this area will get better then toledo and im sure prater will be 1 of them but its still a good archievement for a seo kids to be seen.

Absolutely agree wellstonrockets, anytime we can keep watching a kid from the TVC at the next level it is a good thing.

Alothugh Jaylen hasn't had great stats, he has great speed, strength and grades. Coaches can teach him what he needs at the college level when it comes to the position he plays. The potential he has is great, and that's what coaches want to see.

Luke Thompson Freshman starter at Vinton County in 2008 is also getting looks.
After a sophomore at Logan Elm he finished with 164 tackles and was awarded All State and MSL mention, All District, and All county
He's made visits to Michigan and Cincinnati so far. He's getting mail from Michigan, Cincinnati, Penn State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Purdue, and more.

Colleges don't give a hoot about stats. If they did, how did Ben Mauk fall to Wake Forest?

How does the top rusher (by stats) in Central Ohio not have a D1 offer while guys with half his stats do?

Colleges care about HT/WT/40 time and of course an athletes footwork, their hips, their agility, etc.

That's how the game is played today.

i sincerely hope that mr. prater can get into a good school to play football.

WAY WAY to much time is spent on how big a school a kid can go to.
people beat their chests about how big a school a kid can go to
you know what?
who cares
go to school and get an education.
i wonder how many of the chest beaters care what the kid does academically at college as opposed to how big a school he can get into.

hats off to the guys that get into a school that they can actually compete at and have a good career while getting an education that will take care of them for life

I don't why people have to bash a kid for getting d-1 looks and offers!Who cares if he hasn't done anything right now ( which I firmly believe he's done something) he's getting looks that every player dreams about. Hats off to Jay the kid is one of the hardest workers you'll ever lay an eye on, I've also been told he has an offer from Cincy too!

Just saw Jaylen play last night. This kid is an animal.. All the critics can say what they want about him but man can he run. He runs right at you and over top of you. If his recievers could catch a bit better his numbers would be much better... I watched the hole close up on him several times last night and he made something out of nothing. Very impressed with this kid. He has good size for a junior and he keeps his feet moving after contatc. He has a bright future. Good luck Jaylen and I hope he has a healthy high school career and a bright college future wherever he goes...
