Did we not make the trip to Memorial Stadium last season and put an old fashion but whoopin the Blue Devils last year? 21-0 I believe it was ... the DOGS have a ton of players back, including all of its skill players ... so what's up with A-town being the 'underdog' here?
I'm guessing Athens 28, Gallia 20
Well 93Dog, you just got beat by a D6 school..That pretty much should sum it up.

Ive never really put a lot of stock into scrimmages - they mean nothing.
I also don't put a lot of stock into Divisional breakdowns ... Ironton is what, a D-5 or D-IV school? I'm sure they would take care of a team like, lets say Marietta (which is a D-2) just about every year ... Divisions mean nothing. I would take a "small school" football powerhouse over a big school with a poor football program any day of the week.

lost 2-1 in a half scrimmage against a pretty good D6 and we had at least 4 turnovers and a couple of them deep in Trimble territory, so lets not put a ton of stock in that game. 93 Bulldog if memory serves me correct very few picked Athens last season in this game either and I believe we did pretty well.King of Kings wrote:93Bulldog wrote:I'm seeing a lot of Gallia picks here ... what's up? The stream for WBYG is working great. Thank you to whoever made this possible. Josh, Jimmy, and Richard are doing a terrific job.
Gallipolis 20 Athens 0 at the half.

Congratulations to GAHS on a hard fought victory tonight. GAHS kicked our butts up front the entire first half and deserved to win the game. I was proud of our Bulldogs and their effort in the second half, we looked like a team for the first time. We had an opertunity to make things really interesting with 4 minutes left down 8 with the ball near the 35 and two time outs but came out and threw an INT on the first play and for all intent and purpose ended the game with it. Again congratulations to GAHS and good luck the rest of the way.

Re: Week 1- Gallia Academy @ Athens
Sounded like a good game. Gallipolis got out to a big lead in the first half, and Athens rallied to make the game interesting down the stretch. Defenses for both teams need some work.
Gallipolis is going to make some noise this year in the SEOAL. I'm not predicting anything, but with Logan not being what they usually are several teams have a shot at the title.
The pups will breeze through the TVC just like last year until they meet up with Nelsonville. That game decides league champs. It's good to see Athens competitive again, but I still highly disagree with them being in the TVC. I think it is selling the kids short big time. They don't even have a shot at postseason play. They are playing for local bragging rights with schools they are twice the size of.

Re: Week 1- Gallia Academy @ Athens
Game can be viewed as 3 different games: first half ALL Gallia holding athens to -3 yds on ground and about 30 in air.
3rd qtr all athens then 4th qtr Gallia regained composure.
Key play in my mind was Zach Tackett sack for about a 14yd loss at around the 50 yard line to kill momentum for Athens.
Strong play by many of the team of Devils on the field. Austin Wilsons 4 td's, a pick , and an onside kick recovery didn't hurt either.
Great line play in first half by Gallia on both sides of ball with many defenders in Athens backfield the entire first half with Ben Saunders making quite a few big plays especially early on.
