Someone pry the whiskey bottle away from this guy...  Ashland would run all over most of the seoal...Logan is mediocre this year and watch as they begin their season 0-2. Matter of fact Portsmouth may beat them. Padding?

Ironton did play one weak team out of Kentucky a couple years ago but I think that was just a scrimmage. Didn't they scrimmage Greenup County a couple of times. What I heard it wasn't pretty for Greenup and it didn't help Ironton much either.

I would be willing to bet that Ashland could beat just about every SEOAL Team this year and give Logan a run for their money.........padding the schedule lol, How about Jonathan Alder and Columbus Bishop Hartley??????
--------------------or wheelersburg, portsmouth, jackson , gallipolis, russell, chillicothe. there are a couple teams a bit down this year. but kinda hard to know that scheduling, i see river creature as a newbie, stirring crap to make a name.

Looking like thunderstorms for Friday. Might have an impact on the scoring and turnovers, have to hold onto that slippery ball. We've had problems with that in the past.

correct me if i am wrong but aren't those both D4 teams just like ironton? what, do ya expect to play little D5 teams like milford and wheelersburg and hapless teams like russell EVERY week?
alder and hartley don't seem like wild "out of the realm" games to me. i don't think hartley even made the playoffs last year did they? those are the types of teams ironton SHOULD be playing every week.

what an idget you are. we cannot help what a team has from year to year. that is a sound schedule any year . not as tough as some in the past, but we cannot help what team is up or down that year. and 7 of these games are with teams we have , home and away schedules with every year.

What is it with grown men getting on a high school football message board and posting poop about a school that wasn't even their own? Do people seriously never grow the crunch up? Seriously.

Not sure of KVDW's point. Ohio's computer rating system essentially rates a team's strength of schedule by awarding points based upon a combination of the school size of the opponent, the number of victories accumulated by that opponent, and the school size of teams that the opponent has defeated. It is possible to go 10-0 but not qualify for the playoffs in Ohio if a team plays a cupcake schedule consisting of small schools that don't win many games.

If KVDW's analysis of the Ironton schedule is accurate, then Ironton should not accumulate many computer points and could have difficulty in qualifying for the post-season in 2010. We'll see.

Historically, Ironton's schedule has produced a generous amount of computer points compared to its peers in D-IV. Out of approximately 120 D-IV teams statewide, Ironton's computer points over the last decade have yielded the following statewide ranking at the regular season's end:

2009 - 5th
2008 - 15th
2007 - 49th
2006 - 15th
2005 - 2nd
2004 - 2nd
2003 - 1st
2002 - 12th
2001 - 1st
2000 - 2nd

An interesting artifact in these numbers is the relative decline in computer points after Ironton entered the SEOAL in 2006. The 2006 and 2007 teams had 6-4 and 5-5 regular seasons, with losses coming both in and out of conference, so that readily explains why the ranking was lower in those years. But compare the 8-2 2009 team with the 8-2 2005 team, as well as the 7-3 2008 team with the 7-2 2002 team; in both cases when the Tigers accumulated the same number of wins, the rankings were very comparable but slightly better when Ironton was an independent.

The facts show that Ironton plays an above average schedule for a D-IV school, and fares well against that schedule. I look for this year to be no different. If the Tigers finish 8-2 and do not make the playoffs, then we can all say that KVDW told us so.

Here's the thoughts of those from Kentucky on Bluegrass Preps about this game. Unless they've changed things, they lock the site up on Thursday evening and it's only viewable by registered members but tonight, you can look at it

SAY WHAT?? "Weak KY teams"?? As I recall most of the KY teams Ironton has played have been either contenders or winners of KY State Championships! And you call that "padding their [sp] schedule"?
