Because of the recent hire onto the Vinton County Girls' basketball coaching staff, I certainly hope that Vikings fans will enjoy their last trip EVER into Alumni Stadium. After this year, Jackson will be removed from all sports schedules, causing irreparable damage to an already sinking Vinton County Athletic Department. The only place the two will meet, may be in the playoffs.

Good call Books.
Better watch it, or they will remove this off the board as they did the topic that was getting some great responses on the Girls basketball forum.
I am glad I am on the outside looking in. The Viking sports programs will only go down hill from here. Not hiring Ward (AD) was a huge mistake. The ad in the courier made it a point to compare the two candidates experience for the job; it should have been a no-brainer. Oh well we are dealing with three people without brains or spines on the VC schoolboard when it comes to sports related hiring! Maybe the educatio of the VC school children. I also believe the science teacher they hired over Ben Eberts (Eberts was recommended by principal and superintendent) is related to the current school board president, and has been mopping the floors at Gas'N'Stuff in hamden the past 8 years, a great place to keep your science teaching abilities sharp, while Eberts has only been subbing at VC and Wellston; What a great big old stab in the back for Mr Simmons and Mr. Waddell from the school board. I bet there are some high ranking administrators in the Vinton County school district who just might agree with me on this one!
What is your reason/s for thinking the Ironmen and Vikes will not play each other anymore? Do you know something most don't?
By-the-way;

Jackson needs to play well for most of the game and keep last week's momentum going.

Jackson looked excellent. Big players had great games.

Special teams looked rough on kickoff coverage.

The pass from Winchester to McNelly was one of the best looking high school pass plays that I have witnessed.

42-6 was the final.

Great effort by the Ironmen, especially in the first half. Jackson's 1st team scored on 5 of their 6 first half possessions to lead 35-0 at the intermission.

Time to get ready for the Chieftains. The 0-3 record should not fool anyone from Jackson. Logan is the defending SEOAL champion (6 times in a row). They're gonna be ready to defend that title next Friday night. It's up to Jackson to start the process of taking it away.

Jackson did everything right tonight on offense and defense. The special teams play from Jackson was very inconsistant. Based on what I saw tonight, Jackson is much better than they were last season. Watch out Seoal...I have a feeling week 10 may just be for the title.

I've really been impressed by the play of Kip Winchester the last couple weeks. He has stepped into the QB spot this season after not playing there for quite a while, and is progressing very well. I'm not sure of his stats tonight, but he was very efficient and threw several nice deep balls to McNelly. Kip is very poised and he's leading the offense very well at this point. Hopefully he can build on his performances early in the season and continue that once league play starts next week.

Jackson's offensive line played pretty well tonight, making room for Arthur, Ervin, and Landrum to run. Logan, however, is going to be an entirely different beast, so the boys up front need to be ready to play their hearts out next Friday night. McNelly and Meredith made several nice plays in the passing game, and Jeffers and Johnson also provide solid targets for the aerial attack. Kip has a variety of weapons to work with, and the run/pass balance that has been established makes Jackson's offense very dangerous.

The defense has played much better the last two weeks after that performance against Wellston, but things are gonna get tough now. Logan will definitely test the Jackson defense. Hopefully the Ironmen are up to the challenge. Having Barr back in the lineup after the Wellston game has definitely helped up the middle, and McDaniel and Landrum are starting to react, rather than thinking out there at the inside linebacker positions, and doing a very good job. If Jackson stays solid up the middle, I think they should be strong overall.

The one glaring problem tonight was kick coverage. The opponent has been getting great field position way too often, so that will definitely have to improve, especially with the athletes Jackson will be seeing in the SEOAL. I'm sure the staff will be emphasizing special teams this week, making sure that the kids actually respond to what they're being told, carry that over to the game, and execute much better in kick coverage. I know they're being coached well...just have to get it done on game nights.

Overall, I feel like Jackson has been able to build some confidence heading into league play. Logan has struggled the first three weeks, but there's a reason for that, and that reason is STRONG competition. Lancaster, Pick North, and Reynoldsburg were all very tough football teams, so that 0-3 record is VERY deceiving. The Ironmen need to play 48 minutes of GREAT football next Friday night to end Logan's SEOAL winning streak. It'll be tough, but I believe that the Ironmen can get the job done if they play to their potential.
