Re: A rivalry renewed; Logan vs Nelsonville-York, 2011
I had heard this game might be in the works. Logan has a whole to fill on the schedule in week 5 starting in 2011 (thanks to the departure of Marietta from the SEOAL).
Will certainly bring a HUGE gate to both schools. While I like Logan challenging themselves against OCC competition, that isn't possible with the new OCC alignments because OCC League play starts in week 4.
DeSales and Watterson are also booked for week 5, so I think it is a great deal to get NY back on the schedule at this time. Logan's other options were Athens and Waverly, and I don't think AD Ron Janey has much desire to help out Athens in the checkbook department after they fled the SEOAL.
You know what I always say: If you're going to play a TVC team, play the champ! And NY has proven to be king of the hill in the TVC over the last 2 decades.

I'm sure Paladin won't like this, and not sure I'm crazy about it either, don't get me wrong I have nothing but respect for Nelsonville-York their a great program, but it set us up for a beating by all the haters,,sure good gate, its close but just too small for a big strong D11 program.I really hope they can find some bigger schools with the other openings,I will travel..... I will say they will bring Logan alot of points because they do win! Wow just saw Locos post Desales and Watterson hot diggity, nobody can beat on Logans schedule now

Logan isn't playing DeSales and Watterson, I meant they were not available week 5 and Nelsonville-York was.
Logan's options for week 5 were Athens, NY, and Waverly. Personally, I think NY is the best of those choices. Like I said, if you play a TVC team, play the champ and that's who the Buckeyes are.
I'm not sure it should be a long term fixture, but again, with the schedule whole in week 5 its about as good as Logan could do.

Logan's 2011 Schedule:
AT Lancaster
VS Pickerington North
AT Reynoldsburg
VS Jackson *
AT (?) Nelsonville-York
AT Gallipolis *
VS Warren *
OPEN (Possibly Zanesville, waiting for word from the ECOL)
VS Portsmouth *
AT Chillicothe *
Non-league of Lancaster, Pickerington North, Reynoldsburg, and Nelsonville-York. Not too shabby IMO.
Would love to see Canal Winchester, Hamilton Township, Teays Valley, Watkins Memorial on future schedules. Maybe even a date with Jonathan Alder (who will likely be atleast D3 next year). Watkins and Hamilton have been on the schedule in the past.

Zanesville WILL be back on in the near future, but w/ ZHS having to re-do their schedule b/c of moving to the ECOL, it is not clear what their league requirements are. I have heard from multiple sources that BOTH schools want to keep that rivalry going. I know that the Zanesville coaching staff likes this game as does the AD there, and I think the feeling is mutual.
Logan and ZHS did not play in 2003, but have every season since 1991.
Also, last I heard there was not a signed contract yet with Nelsonville-York, just discussion. I've heard the contract was ready, just not signed yet.
Just to be clear. I do think this is a little more than a "possibility" though.

I really like that game with Z-ville,even though the road is not that great I just love that drive over there for some reason....
Re: A rivalry renewed; Logan vs Nelsonville-York, 2011
I LOVED going up on the Hill in the early 2000's and watching this game. An absolute monster gate every year. I'll miss this matchup if it happens, as I'll be deployed by this time =/ NY's non-conference schedule next year will be ridiculous, as will Logan's. Hope they can work something out

I think it's okay to play this game every few years but I think it won't be a good thing for either school to play every year

Re: A rivalry renewed; Logan vs Nelsonville-York, 2011
When Logan and NY play, the crowds are HUGE!!!! I never seen Boston Field more crowded than during a Logan/NY game.
I'm excited about this! Logan was a week 2 fixture on the schedule for years, and they have not played each other since 2002. This is the longest stretch of time NY and Logan have ever gone without playing each other.
What vastly different venues both teams have now than they had the last time they played! The schools are 12 miles apart and now have two of the best stadiums in southeastern Ohio and each team will have an opportunity to play on the other's field.
Too bad this game can't be the day after Thanksgiving like in the days of the old-school SEOAL!

As an avid NY fan I'm real excited. Don't think I would feel the same if I were a Chieftain, nothing to gain and everything to lose.

may i voice my opinion. when ironton, who is only 5 players away from d5. could not find an opponent, then millford center fairbank, had an opening we scheduled a team that is 1 division lower, and we get ate up on the computer for it. it is a home game , which gave ironton 5. will be much better than an open date. yet you drop 3 divisions, and nobody says a thing. i just don't get it. and i too, have nothing but respect for both programs. but what gives. i realize the communities are close, good gate. but why is it so bad ironton drops 1 division and gets a game.yet logan drops 3 divisions to get a game, not a word. please respond respectfully. i am only trying to figure out why it is held in different opinions. thats all.

as i see it ny has everything to gain. logan is in a lose/lose situation, except the gate.

First off, I really don't give a hoot who Ironton plays anymore. You're Tiger Bait wrote:may i voice my opinion. when ironton, who is only 5 players away from d5. could not find an opponent, then millford center fairbank, had an opening we scheduled a team that is 1 division lower, and we get ate up on the computer for it. it is a home game , which gave ironton 5. will be much better than an open date. yet you drop 3 divisions, and nobody says a thing. i just don't get it. and i too, have nothing but respect for both programs. but what gives. i realize the communities are close, good gate. but why is it so bad ironton drops 1 division and gets a game.yet logan drops 3 divisions to get a game, not a word. please respond respectfully. i am only trying to figure out why it is held in different opinions. thats all.
Not my 1st choice, no doubt about it.
But I told you the options Logan had: Nelsonville-York, Waverly, and Athens.
Out of those choices NY will:
Be the better football team.
Bring the better gate.
And probably provide the most computer points.
Athens may be D2, but they have not proven they can beat Nelsonville-York for the TVC-Ohio crown.
Week 5 is a tough time to schedule a non-league game - almost every league in Ohio has started league play by then. And like I said, DeSales and Watterson didn't have openings that week.
It was Nelsonville, Athens, or a Bye-Week. I think N-Y is the best choice of the 3.

I won't criticize anyone for scheduling N-Y. If Jackson dropped Vinton County tomorrow and added NY instead, I would call that an upgrade. I've told anyone that will listen that if you are going to play a TVC team, play Nelsonville-York.DILLIGAF wrote:

Again, who in SE Ohio goes and adds two playoff schools from a higher division in their non-league schedule? And that doesn't even include a D2 team that finished 9-1 and missed the playoffs in the states most competitive region.
If I had my way I'd rather see a team from the Mid-State League, City League, or Catholic League. But MSL and City League are in league play by week 5 and Catholic league teams don't have openings.
