South Webster @ Clay
South Webster @ Clay
I'm interested in seeing how this game is going to play out. Especially if the weather plays a factor with it also being at Clay. Clay had a good showing against Valley beating them 4-2 with Valley's goals both coming from PK's. Webster beat Valley earlier this season 4-nil but also defeated Clay 9-nil. If Clay can take advantage of the smaller field and maybe get that counter attack goal early then they could keep this a close game. However, I feel that Webster is riding their undefeated record with a high and will come in confident, but maybe too confident and Clay could surprise them. I hope this is a good game and not another blowout with Webster's tough defense only giving up a couple goals on the season thusfar.
Good luck to both teams!
But I have a feeling this will be the outcome:
SW - 5
Clay - 2

Re: South Webster @ Clay
Clay is much improved from the beginning of the season.
They have a good coach who is doing a lot of great things for the program.
I think South Webster is still too much for the Panthers.
South Webster will control the midfield and the tempo of the game.
The Webster defense is dominating.
I look for a 7-1 game.

If Clay will set their defense the way they had it against Valley I believe that will give them a fighting chance. It just really depends on how well Clay can counter and how quickly. We know Webster is tough defensively so it will prove to be a great test of Clay's determination.
Good luck once again to both teams!

Re: South Webster @ Clay
Clay's best chance is to load the defense and play for the 0-0 tie. They haven't scored on SW in the past 2 years and would be better served playing for the shutout. I think it will be closer than the last few games. Clays goalie does not like to be rushed and took out a couple of SW players last game, I hope that doesn't escalate and no one gets hurt.
Re: South Webster @ Clay
I think Webster will take the win. They have got all boys and they are athletic. Good Luck Clay!! It would be great to see some competition in this evenings game.

Sw 8
Clay 0
Clay was never in this one from the start. Their top defender was out sick (A.J. Keeton) and they pulled their best offensive players back and were under attack all night. SW outshot them 21 - 2 in the first half. SW is just too phsyical for Clay's smaller, younger players and they controlled the ball all night. SW is 9th in the state and you can see why when you watch them play. They work the ball around the field, switching sides quickly and moving the ball forward. Clay biggest problem right now is they are trying too many short passes. It is good that they are controlling the ball and passing it, but a 3 yard pass does nothing to gain space, when the defender who was on you only needs to take 2 steps to be back on the ball what have you gained? They do not kick thru balls past the defense at any time and that is limiting their chances of moving the ball up field and attacking the goal. They also need to work with their goalie. He comes out to the side on corner kicks and throw ins, leaving the entire goal open for headers. Clay plays Eastern Saturday and needs to get back on track to have a shot at a winning season. Nothing to be ashamed of losing to SW, just need to learn from this and move on.

South Webster Jeeps 8, Clay Panthers 0
Goals By Half ...............1 ......2 ......Final
South Webster..............6 ......2....... 8
Clay Panthers .............. 0 ......0....... 0
Scoring summary
Half Time Team Goal Scorer (Assist)
1 1:00 SW #9 Rice, Adam (#10 Patterson, Brice)
1 10:53 SW #3 Miller, Ashton (#5 Scott, Connor)
1 16:34 SW #10 Patterson, Brice (#5 Scott, Connor)
1 26:25 SW #5 Scott, Connor
1 29:00 SW #5 Scott, Connor (#9 Rice, Adam)
1 30:34 SW #5 Scott, Connor
2 54:25 SW #24 Goddard, Seth (#20 Wright, Josh)
2 62:09 SW #20 Wright, Josh (#9 Rice, Adam)
Clay has made some positive adjustments since the first game. I do agree that the GK could stay a little more on his line and let the defense battle for the ball more. He has good size & potential and will do some good things for them. Coach Smith has things going the right direction.

Re: South Webster @ Clay
We were hoping that Clay could have made a little better showing. Especially after the way they played against Valley, but the missing player and shifting offense to defense thru everything out of kilter, and SW is just too strong if your not bringing your A game. It might have only been 4 - 0??? Oh well, good luck to SW the rest of the season and I hope they represent Southern Ohio with another deep run in the tourney.
Re: South Webster @ Clay
does any1 know how many saves the gk for clay had? Plus i give all gk's credit because they have alot of pressure riding on them, i mean the players out on the feild knows that they hav someone eles behind them to help them out but theres no one behind the gk.

Re: South Webster @ Clay
unofficially I had SW taking 21 shots in the first half and about 7 in the second with Clays goalies having 9 saves, 7 by the first goalie and 2 by the sub.
Clay only had 2 or 3 weak shots in the first half and about 6 in the second. SW goalie made a nice save on a well struck ball and dodge a bullet when he misplayed a ball that was cut off but the boy from Clay didn't get a good kick on it and rolled it right back to him, preserving the shut out. Last year Clay missed a PK, so I don't think they have scored on SW in over 2 years.

Re: South Webster @ Clay
Well that's disappointing to hear of such a one-sided outcome as 8-nil. But it's a learning experience and hopefully Clay's team members were watching how SW passes and moves off the ball. Communicating and movement off the ball need to be a big focus for Clay. Short passes don't alway help when you're able to dribble and take space with speed, but playing thru balls don't alway help either if the mid-field isn't running to support the thru pass. Clay has a lot of room for advancement and hopefully they will have the numbers in the years to come.
Congrats SW on the win and good luck to the both of you on the remainder of the season.
