Gallia’s Keys to the Game:

Offensively, we want to beat Ironton at their own game. Pound the ball with the run and mix in quick strikes to our speed players. We need to stay with the run, even if it isn’t as successful as it has been previously this year so that we can still have an element of surprise on the quick strike type plays. The O-Line will need to be sharp on assignments. We may have gotten away with missing an assignment here or there against lesser opponents, but that isn’t going to cut it this week. An injury on the O-line this week looks to loom large. I don’t think we know yet for sure if we’ll be at full strength. If not, how well will those players replacing them be able to fill in and perform under the spotlight. I'd like to see all of our RBs run hard every play. We need them to lower the shoulder and finish runs punishing defenders. They need to pop back up off the ground after a tackle with a spring in their step and trot back to the huddle showing absolutely no indication of weakness. I think that if we are able to be competitive with our ground game, the speed of our skill players should be something we can take advantage of.

Defensively, there's no secret as to what Ironton wants to do. We need to stuff the run between the tackles. We’ve done well at this all year, but haven’t played a team that pounds the ball inside as well as Ironton. I expect the D-Line to plug their gaps fairly well. The key will be the linebacker play. Our D-line normally eats up enough blockers that our LBs are roaming free and make tons of tackles. However, in the last couple of seasons, this hasn’t been the case nearly as much in the big games against the toughest competition as the better teams are getting more blockers to the second level. Can our undersized LBs shed the blocks and make the plays? If we can stuff the middle, we’ll have to find a way to shut down the outside. This has been our Achilles heel so far this year.

This game is mostly going to be about attitude. These teams are very similar in that they are both teams that want to emphasize their line play, be physical and wear the other team down by pounding on them. The hot weather may bring conditioning into play. This is an area where GA shouldn't find themselves lacking. I'm confident in the conditioning level of the team. This should be an old-fashioned football fan’s dream. A real slobberknocker. Which team wants it worse. Which team can out hit the other. The team that is able to get up time after time and keep coming back to deliver more and more of those hits is going to be the one that wins in the end.

Is there anyone from Gallia Academy who films the game that might be willing to share it with me so I could put it up on Irontonfootball.com? Both schools fans who are now out of the area would enjoy this a lot. I've asked and asked and asked Ironton people, no one has come forth yet. Could you imagine what this would mean to someone who's stationed overseas to be able to watch this game? win/lose or draw (well, there's no more draws anymore but all the same ;-) ) it would be very enjoyable.

I served overseas and you have a tremendous idea. It would be something that could spread all over the USA. It is a small thing in the big picture but would be greatly appreciated by many in the uniform of their country.

I read that idiot's blog about the game and about the only thing he got right was Ashland getting their tails handed to them in the 1st qtr. You'd think they would learn after all these games/years. For the playing surface, he probably ain't ever been on either one unless it was in the band and that would have to have been the Ky flavor.
I can't really argue about the voice on the PA but I think I-Town's band is outstanding for the number of kids, but big numbers don't mean strength, look at the football teams. Mr. tomcat probably listened to the game on the radio anyway, afraid to go out to the Tank. I will give credit where credit goes, at least there was enough left of him to admit how stupid he was in his post the day before the game. See ya next year sucka.
