Pens 3 Rangers 1

Get in the fast lane grandma, the bingo game is ready to roll!

Pens win their 7th in a row and 9 out of the last 10 to tie the Flyers for first in the division and only 2 back of first in the East behind the Caps.

Haven't got to follow hockeye as much as I would like due to my father's illness and passing. What I have seen from the Pens early was a team that was fighting thru injuries (Staal), uneven play (Malkin and Fleury) and a defensive line that hadn't gelled and was leaderless.

Now we have a team that has gelled with their defensive line with Letang emerging as an All-Star and Fleury is back to his true form. These 2 have the Pens looking like a Cup final team (just like the Red Wings from the west) and the Goals Against hasn't moved much in the last 3 weeks.

Malkin is still playing through the rut and Staal is skating and looks to make his first appearence of the season by Christmas.

Atlanta comes to town on thursday for their thrashing.

LETS GO PENS!!!

Marian Whossa?

Man, the Hawks almost choked on the Blues. They were up 5-1 in the 2nd and I turned the channel and then I turned back and it was 5-4 but they pulled it out 7-5. The Hawks were kind of walking the high wire in this one.

Habs rebound with 5-1 win at New Jersey Thursday, 12.02.2010 / 9:32 PM Dan Rosen - NHL.com Senior Writer NEWARK, N.J. -- The best medicine for the Montreal Canadiens after a tough loss at home Wednesday was to get right back at it Thursday.

The New Jersey Devils offered the perfect elixir -- little resistance.

Montreal chased Devils goalie Johan Hedberg after just 98 seconds and didn't step off the pedal until it had finished off a 5-1 victory just 24 hours after blowing a two-goal third-period lead en route to a 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton.

Carey Price made 27 saves for his League-leading 15th win of the season. The Devils, who hadn't played since Saturday, were on a three-game home winning streak before the Habs came to town.

Ex-Devil Brian Gionta scored 11 seconds into the game by shoveling in a loose puck after Hedberg fumbled a would-be save on Roman Hamrlik's slap shot from the left circle. Lars Eller made it 2-0 just 1:27 later when he went around defenseman Mark Fayne and wrapped the puck in off Hedberg's left skate blade.

Tomas Plekanec had a chance to make it 3-0 with a penalty shot 7:27 into the first, but Hedberg's replacement, Mike McKenna, came up with a right pad save.

Tom Pyatt did make it 3-0 by scoring his first goal of the season 2:30 into the second period. Pyatt had to put his celebration on hold with the play under review, but replays clearly showed that his shot from the slot found the netting inside the right post.

Scott Gomez became the second former Devil to score on his old mates when he roofed a rebound from the low slot for a power-play goal 8:37 into the second. It was Gomez's second goal in as many nights after he scored only twice in the first 24 games.

Benoit Pouliot's snap shot from the left side only 80 seconds later sailed over McKenna's low-hanging catching glove and into the short side, giving the Habs a 5-0 lead and bringing out plenty of boo birds inside Prudential Center.

The Devils had a chance to get back in the game late in the second period with a 5-on-3 for the full two minutes. Eller and Hamrlik were issued tripping minors at 17:06, but New Jersey, despite holding the puck in the zone for nearly the entire span, did not force Price to make any difficult saves or even go post-to-post. They got four shots on goal during the two-man advantage, but they were all from the outside.

Jason Arnott scored 8:18 into the third period on a nice set-up by Patrik Elias, but there was little reason to even raise his arms in celebration.

Devils coach John MacLean pulled Hedberg immediately after Eller's goal. Hedberg, who had stopped 113 of 117 shots in his last four starts, was only 1-for-3 Thursday and his goals-against average and save percentage took a big hit.

He started the night with a .910 save percentage and 2.66 GAA, but after giving up two goals on three shots in just 1:38 he's now unofficially at .903 and 2.90.

Pens 6 Thrashers 3

This win was much harder than it looked and the boys earned their Iron City tonight!

Pens let the Thrashers have 8 power play chances, way to many. Pens broke open a close game with a goal 8 seconds into the 3rd that just sapped the life out of Atlanta.

Crosby keeps the scoring streak going with another goal.

The Burg invades NY as they take on the Islanders tonight. Puck drops @ 7pm on FSN. Plan on watching it in HD.

Weather forecast not looking good for the Winter's Classic on Jan 1. Upper 40's and 50% chance of rain.

On a side note, Crosby's jersey is the top seller in the NHL.

With the holidays ending, I am more than ready to settle in for a winter's viewing and posting of hockey.

Islanders 2 Pens 1 in a shootout.

Rock em and sock em type of game. Neilson shadows Crosby all night and the streak ends at 25 games. Time to shave the stache off Sid.

Pens had a 4 on 3 the last 1:45 of the OT but spent it trying to get Crosby a point instead of getting a goal, IMHO.

Back to the Burg and the Winter Classic on New Year's Day as Ovechkin and the Caps come to town to start the year off. January includes a couple of games against the Habs and the Red Wings come to the Burg too.

League says the ice is cooled to 22 degrees and any rain will freeze in a couple of seconds. The game on Jan 1 could start as late as 8 pm or be moved to noon on Jan 2. If for some reason it gets washed out, no pun intended, it will be made up later in the year but as an indoor game.

Saturday's forecast is a high 49 and 70% chance of rain. Sunday is a high of 34 and a 10% chance of rain. I think it will be moved to Sunday.

On a side note, it is currently -9 at North Pole, Alaska. Saturday it will get up to 14. Sounds like they will be breaking out the flip flops and bermuda shorts this weekend. Coronas for all! ;-)

Caps 3 Pens 1

The Winter Classic was delayed til 8 pm but the game was a good one. A lot of hate between these 2 teams and the play was hard.

A great sight watching nearly 70,000 Terrible Towels waving after Malkins goal! If Fleury would have stayed in the goal instead of chasing the puck behind the net, this one might have ended differently. Oh well.

Pens and Caps have split the first 2 games of the 4 game series.
