Magnolia vs. Monroe Central
Huge rivalry game with serious implications in D-V, Region 19. Magnolia comes in as the third undefeated team in a row that Monroe Central has faced. Will the Noles go 3 for 3 and knock another team from the unbeaten ranks?
Magnolia has an inherent advantage every year for this game, as they always schedule their bye week, the week before the Monroe Central game, which gives them two weeks to prepare for the Noles. Alot of folks are picking Magnolia to walk away with the victory this week, as they've not had one competitive game yet, blowing away every team that they've faced. They've outscored their competition 199-21 in four games, with Williamstown ringing up 21 points against Magnolia in a 26 point loss to the Blue Eagles.
Magnolia handed the Noles their only regular season loss in 2009, a 13-0 victory in New Martinsville. Hope to see the Noles reverse this and come away with the win. They win Friday and then win out, they will certainly host a first round game with a 9-1 record.
Should be a dandy in beautiful Monroe Memorial Park on Friday night. Fear the spear, and that steed to, it's a mean one! LOL!

Re: Magnolia vs. Monroe Central
I don't know what all Magnolia lost from last year, but last years MC team was better than this years, IMO. So, based off that I think Magnolia wins this one. Might just have to come watch this one.
Re: Magnolia vs. Monroe Central
That bye week is lame. This is high school football not the NFL. Shows the respect they must have for our program.
If the team that beat Caldwell shows up they can win. If the team that showed up at Shadyside and for River... they'll lose.
Not an excuse, but last year's game was played in an absolute downpour and the field was a pig pen. It did play a factor. MC is better on a fast track. I think it would have been different on a dry field. Maybe they would have scored more. I don't know. But I do know Dierkes was not a mudder. Kinchen is more so.

Allright MC fans, using "the Kapono" excuse card before game day---extra week off, and wet field last year.
Didn't think you'ld stoop to Kapono's level...

The bye week is no excuse. It does allow them to get over any injuries, but that's about it. I just think it's funny that every year they have to have their bye week before us. It's not like we are the New York Giants. We're not even the Cleveland Browns :122245 . Do high schools really need a bye week? Come on.
Last year's game pivoted on two crucial turnovers. MC wasn't dominated. They were very equally matched teams. I expect the same this year.

The big key in this one is if MC can find a defender who can contain (not stop) Rogalski with his speed. The sophomore is going to be unstoppable by the time he's a senior. If Fox finds him open often it could get ugly. Magnolia has that Keller kid too and he's no chopped liver.
The Seminoles will need Hogue, Lindamood and Kinchen brothers to really excel in this one, plus the line has got to give its best effort. This game has huge playoff implications for both, but especially MC. Magnolia is a shoo-in for 'AA' in WV.
I know if Steely Dan could fly his lear jet to Monroe airport he'd be at this one.

This should be one of the best games around Friday night. Wish I could be there, but times are tough. After I lost my American Express Black card, NetJets won't do business with me anymore......carbon_dated wrote:The big key in this one is if MC can find a defender who can contain (not stop) Rogalski with his speed. That and the trip to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun, which has had me villified for years (thanks Carly).

Now, let's see how many get that obscure reference! :122245

Steely Dan,
You're so vain that you probably think this post is about you.

Come on Noles this is a big game. It's been way too long since our last big win. The program's last big win probably was the Nelsonville-York playoff game in 2003. Since then they've won every game they should have and lost every game they were expected to lose. Time to rise up and knock somebody off that everybody is expecting to beat you. Magnolia is at the level of other Region 19 playoff teams, so this is a yard stick game.
Re: Magnolia vs. Monroe Central
Everyone I talk to at work says Monroe Central is so out of shape the Noles will fall flat in the second half. Hopefully, they hang for 4 quarters this week and grab a win.

Re: Magnolia vs. Monroe Central
They didn't look out of shape when I saw them play. I know they had some concerns earlier in the season, but I would think everyone would be in game shape by now.
Re: Magnolia vs. Monroe Central
Individually, each kid is in as good as shape as you can ask for. I've commented before on this website about the physical demands of playing in a spread offense and defending spread offenses and having only about 15 kids going both ways. Way too demanding. So yes, I think that is a legit concern, but it might be a concern for Magnolia too. I don't know how many kids get in and out of the game for them. There is little depth at Monroe Central and it will eventually rear it's ugly head. Might be this week, or maybe not.

Has to be one of the worst home beatings a Jay Circosta team has every taken. Will be interested to hear alot more detail on this one tomorrow. Magnolia was up 21-14 at halftime.

Kind of shocked by this one. I knew Magnolia was a good team and were capable of winning, but I didn't think it would be by that much.
