Chillicothe's softball complex
WOW, just stopped by the CHS softball complex and was amazed. Field looks awesome. The dugouts are, straight up, the biggest softball dugouts that I have ever seen. They have to be at least 45 ft. long and 8-10 ft. deep. They have stamped blue concrete on the floor. The complex is so nice and looks to be right on track, after talking to Coach Phillips, for opening in the spring. NICE JOB LADY CAVS. Congrats to Coach Phillips, but more importantly, the girls that have believed and worked so hard to bring CHS softball back to relevance.

At Mt. Logan next to the soccer complex. Closer for Jackson and Gallia and the other SE teams.gahs4ever wrote:Where is the complex located?

Re: Chillicothe's softball complex
The school system asked the city parks to let CHS "borrow" a diamond. The CCSD would pay to place a fence, dugouts, and scoreboard and the parks and rec would have use of that for the entire year except during high school softball season. They answered with a resounding "no", their insurance didn't want to be responsible for the extra equipment or the cost of vandalism. The area behind the baseball field would barely work size-wise however two problems come into play. The first was cost. That area is a canal bed and used to be the old city dump. The cost of brininging enough topsoil in to make it work pushed the CCSD over the limit. The second problem is that the baseball field is crappy because the diamond has sunk because of the "unknown" refuse below. The CCSD didn't want to encounter another problem in the future.
Also, eventually the CCSD would like to have all outdoor sports at a complex at the Mt. Logan area. Excluding football and track of course. The plans have been drawn up and approved by the board however in this climate of tax issues, there would be no chance to get private funding without incurring bad PR.
Hope that clears it up.

Re: Chillicothe's softball complex
The bleachers will be directly behind home plate. The pad is being poured this week. We will use the soccer bleachers because they are perfectly raised for the four foot wall and soccer doesn't use them in the spring. The backstop is a black nylon net and should be up ASAP. The scoreboard just got a new coat of paint and will be up next week. The dugout bleachers are being built today by a crew of one of the softball parents. The fence is 4'. It gives the facility a cozy feeling where people can stand around the perimeter and see the game. This is much like Unioto's fence (remember the districts?). The infield is a sand, and soil composite for draining purposes. This field (so far) drains like a champ. It needs tilled and then drug to freshen it up but she should be a go. The team is sure excited to have something to call their own.
