TVC-Ohio: Vinton Co. (1-5) @ Athens (3-3)

Post by A-Town Big Dog »

Athens battled a very inspired Meigs team last week and Vinton Co. played their guts out against Alexander in two games that were closer than most thought they would be. More of the same? Let's hear it.

Going with Athens this week. Hopefully they can drawthe same/if not better community support under the lights at Peden once again like the Pburg South game. VC gave a heck of a ball game to Alexander last week and hopefully Athens shows up prepared and plays with a chip on their shoulders. Defense has been stepping up in the last few weeks, Offense has been awesome the last few weeks. which is great. Hopefully Athens will start running on all 8 cylinders for this one. Sharp has been excellent lately, and Harris steady as always. Get this W and Athens will be sitting above .500 for the season and hopes of a 2010 TVC Ohio Championship.

Go Bulldogs

Athens is the heavy favorite for sure. But on any given night, strange things can happen.The weather could turn bad, the heavy favored team could play terrible, over look a seemly inferior Team. I am not saying that will happen. Good luck to Vinton County, pulling for you all the way. You are making strides in every game now. They have some younger players that are getting more experience and will only get better. Good Luck to both Teams on not having any injuries.

Hope the Vikings can get this one. Go Vikes!

I have a question about the game. Does the University allow parking at the stadium? If so, do they charge?

On Friday night you can park at Peden Stadium parking lots for free as long as it is not a metered spot.

There will also be tailgating allowed for this Friday's Homecoming festivities in Tailgreat Park on Shaffer Street, across Richland Avenue from Peden.

This is my upset pick of the week. With athens having key players out and banged up VC gets the TVC upset.

===HALFTIME REPORT===
VINTON COUNTY -- 00
ATHENS ------------ 35
=================

Those worrying about the absence of Athens QB Trey Harris should see this as a huge positive as Junior QB Joshua Skinner has stepped up huge to fill in for the All-Tvc QB as he battles his injury. Also another positive is Skinner, who most likely will be the Signal Caller next year get some 'Live Action' that you can really get from practice. Kudos to Coach Adams and his Staff on not only gettin' the 'D' pumped up, but for getting the Offense to gel and on what looks like its gonna be a 4-game winning streak...

=================
ATHENS --158 rushing yards
VINTON -- 24 rushing yards
=================

==============================================
Athens --
Sharp with a TD run
Dixon fumble recovery for TD
Dixon with a 90 yard Punt Return
Weaver with a 16 yard TD Run
Skinner with a 2 yard TD Run
===============================================

How 'Bout Dem Bulldogs!!!

This game was over early, Athens was able to score on offense, defense, and twice on special teams (1 punt return, 1 kickoff return). Athens opened the game with Ian Dixon returning a V.C. fumble for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and DeVon Sharp opened the second half with a kickoff return for a touchdown. The Bulldog defense looked ready to play from the start tonight and Vinton Co. never really got their legs under them. Athens made wholsale changes on personell after one series in the second half giving some much needed playing time to the J.V. squad. The V.C. varsity offense was able to score on the Athens J.V after a blocked punt for their only highlights of the night in the 3rd quarter. V.C. does look to have a pretty solid group of J.V. kids coming so maybe they'll get things turned around down there soon. Good luck to the Vikes the rest of the way.

It should also be noted that Josh Skinner played a well rounded game in the absense of starting QB Trey Harris ( DNP ankle injury) and earned his first career Varsity win. So congratulations young man!

This game was no contest from the beginning, the early fumble and ensuing return for td set the tone. Dixon and Sharp were electric when they had their hands on the ball. Skinner was efficient at QB in Harris' absence, and proved to be a very tough runner. The defense was swarming. Great win on homecoming night at our home away from home. The next 3 weeks - @ Alexander, Wellston home, @ Nelsonville-York - now that is a meat grinder, tvc Ohio style.
4 in a row.....
