Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
If Coach Crabtree and Valley cant get the Burg this year, sorry to say it's probably not going to happen. I've seen alot of playoff teams over the years and Valley throws the ball about as well as any i've seen in southern ohio over the years. This is their best shot to finally get that monkey off their back. The only thing that will keep that from happening is mental block.
Good Luck Indians. I hope you beat the burg.

Not sure who's calling the plays, but do know for sure, Scott Rolfe = the best QB the SOC has ever seen. It would stand to reason if he's on the staff, the "O" would be in order.QB4 wrote:Valley's Offensive Coordinator needs a very big pat on his back!!!

Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
To those posters from West who handled the outcome on this site with class, thank you very much. Your class and sportsmanship are definitely top shelve in my book. As for Pendleton's injury, I can tell you flat out that every single Valley fan I spoke to (which covers a lot) were very concerned for him and very saddened that he went down. I think I speak for all of us from Lucasville when I say we wish a speedy recovery for him and will be pulling for him 100% for the rest of his career...which WILL include college football somewhere, regardless of the programs that shy away. Those that stay in his corner will land a tremendous football player and tremendous personal asset to their program as a young man and leader.
As for the "guarantees" of a West win with a healthy Pendleton, I think that's a slap in the face at the effort put forth by the rest of the young men on the field. I thought the Bricker kid stepped up and gave a GIGANTIC performance in Pendleton's absence. We heard all year long how deep West was in the backfield. I didn't see "five deep" as so many have said, but what I did see was an absolutely tremendous performance from Bricker and I'd take that kid on my team in my backfield any day of the week. He played like a stud and deserves every ounce of credit that anyone could give to any player in this game. He and Ratcliff did for West what it was obvious that Yates and Holcomb did for Valley. I was so impressed with Bricker and Ratcliff that I could go on all night long and still not give them the credit I believe they deserve!!!
As for Yates and Holcomb...another tremendous outing. Both played huge on both sides of the ball. How many plays did Holcomb make defensively on the perimeter turning back West runners, or making open field tackles. He was everywhere. And, Yates, defensively, delivering hits when it was said that he "hadn't been hit" yet this year...not to mention the big INT he had in the endzone. Offensively, Yates didn't throw a ton of passes, but when he did, he was very effecient and he ran like a wild man. Another night of effecient passing with a high completion percentage and NO interceptions. Just a very impressive performance, from a very talented youngster.
I can't stress enough how much credit needs to be given to the kids from West who lost their leader early in the first quarter and continued to battle and battle. To say that they did anything else is simply rediculous. Those kids deserve all the credit in the world. They lost their top offensive and defensive player and leader, and yet they battled until the very end. About the only thing I will agree on that QB4 said was the comment about the 4th & 10 play call. What in the world was that? How you call back-to-back timeouts and risk everything on that play, only to choose that play is beyond me...especially when your QB had been very successful through the air. But, I don't get paid to make those decisions and as pointed out, Bricker made a heck of a run and nearly picked up the first down.
Initially, I felt West would be a major underdog against Burg without Pendleton, but with a lesser opponent next week (no offense to Northwest), they are gonna have another week to prepare and get ready for that showdown. If Bricker, Ratcliff and company can deliver the same type of performance against Burg that they gave tonight...you never know. It ain't over till it's over.
Congrats to Valley on the win and best of luck to West the rest of the way. You have a very talented football TEAM and I think you are far from finished!!!
Again, prayers going out tonight to Trevon Pendleton and his family. His injury was very bad, and as a medical professional, I can't stress that enough. But, he's an amazing kid with an amazing support group. He WILL be back on a football field sometime in the future and I can't wait to hear all about his success that I'm sure he's gonna have!!!

Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
It's every seniors biggest fear getting hurt their senior year because 95% of them will never throw on another pair of pads as long as they live. On the other hand their is Trevon. A kid who I saw working out at the lifecenter almost every day he possibly could. He had it in him. He was determined, Dedicated and true to himself. It makes me sick to my stomache thinking about what happened tonight. You want to look at it as it wasn't real but in reality it was. I've joked with the kid, worked out an played football against him and him being a sophomore when I was a senior and just knowing that this kid is going to stand out and shine these next few years was a good feeling because you can't say that much about players around here as some arent gifted with the grades, height, speed, ETC. but Trevon was. My prayers go out to him as I can't imagine how hard this is for him but with his family, friends and southern ohio behind him I think he will recover well and be back out on the feild one day. May not be in Orange and Black but he will have his #8 jersey on again.

I don't know that it would happen, but I think it would be an outstanding jesture of sportsmanship for all this fine young man has accomplished if the other five teams in the SOC would wear a black or orange 8 on their cleats, socks, uniforms somewhere in honor of Trevon for the last two weeks of SOC II play. I'm sure not all will agree with my thoughts, and maybe I'm just a sap, but I think it would be an outstanding jesture for a kid who has meant so much to the scope of SOC II football for the last three years!!!

I have a better idea. Tar and feather every last adult involved with the decision to let him play this week when he obviously wasn't 100%.Jesco White wrote:I don't know that it would happen, but I think it would be an outstanding jesture of sportsmanship for all this fine young man has accomplished if the other five teams in the SOC would wear a black or orange 8 on their cleats, socks, uniforms somewhere in honor of Trevon for the last two weeks of SOC II play. A Hip Pointer and a Broken Ankle are two different things. Don't put something like that on the coaches. It was a ugly and dangerous play that neither the kid who hit him or the coach that put trevon in had control of.YoDuh wrote:I have a better idea. Right, my bad. The kid who hit him wasn't going after the most hyped kid on SEOPS. That same hyped kid who wasn't favoring an injured hip. What was I thinking when I presumed the adult ego had anything to do with this misfortune.OST wrote:A Hip Pointer and a Broken Ankle are two different things. Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
First time seeing both teams in person, kudos to both. Good luck to Trevon. Really sorry to see him go down like that. Everybody is pulling for him! As for the game, I was impressed with West hard runners. Equally impressed with Valley D in not giving up when they could have realized West was still pushing the ball down their throats and bent but didnt break. As for Valleys O, Yates is like said before, very efficient and doesnt get flustered. But, to agree with some West posters, what you missed with Pendleton on the D side of the ball was an explosive Gap rush from him that Yates would have been given fits with. I dont know if that would have pertained to the game last night but Yates sure did go unmolested on the not so designed draws and is very quick and very fast. Great game to watch but for one play in the first qtr. Will see ya next Friday Indians!!

Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
Let it go folks; this is why you play the game. Lost leader the problem? Last year Valley's fullback/linebacker/team leader was taken out by West in the very first offensive drive and Valley went on to win; so what does that have to do with who wins and who doesn't unless your claim is that West is a one deminsional, single talent team (which they are not). As far as Yates and passing, Jim "Snuffy" Smith made the statement several times last night, "he has great line in front of him and they kept a very talented West - D off of his back". The West D-ends played well but 8-12 passing (with two drops) and the Valley rushing speak for itself. Valley's offense and defense overcame several offical's mistakes and won the game; in my opinion, it could have been worse. As for Portsmouth speaking up on this thread; you do not have the talent that West or Valley has (or Wheelersburg); face it, Myers is (was) good and he quit (perhaps he and Gully should have stayed at Valley), just try to look forward to next year, you have a very good group of freshmen and sophmores coming up. Close the book on week eight, you only have two more weeks to set the table for the playoffs - enjoy it!
Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
Great game by both schools no doubt, every player left it all on the field. Tevon will heal and WILL be back playing college ball!!
Ya'll can bet the farm on that!! This Valley team is the best I've seen in years, good luck to them and in the post season, they should go far.
Keep fighting West, 9-1 is a great season!!!

Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
Thoughts :
The O line for Valley did a super job, maybe a couple sacks late but for the most part did great.
Yates isn't getting the pub he deserves for being an OUTSTANDING Qb.
The whole game kinda had a surreal feel to it after Pendleton went down.
West threw the ball much better than I expected.
The pass interference call on 2nd and very long for west --very very poor. official threw the flag from 30 yards away when nothing close to PI happened.

You know that would be a very good/ very classy thing to do....I'm sure if the right people seen this it would be done.
Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
YoDa,
It was a simple open feild tackle! you have a kid that is 5'7 165lbs that is going head on against a 6ft 230lb runningback that is about as fast as he is. I highly doubt he was going to try to either arm tackle or hit him up high. Everytime a kid gets hurt you have people "Ah man they did it on purpose this is bs" which is stupid. It's high school football! everyone around here is friends with one an other an their are only very few kids on the team who are the "head hunters" and holcomb isnt one of them. Their isnt a kid on that valley team that saw the feild friday night that is one. It was a freakish accident that shouldn't of happened but it did an now all we can do is pray and hope this doesn't effect trevons future.

Re: SOC2 Lucasville Valley (7-0) vs. Portsmouth West (7-0)
Congrats to Valley, they won all aspects of the game. West was outplayed by a talented team, using our defense against us. The option from the shotgun was a 70% successful play, the flat was open all night for the short pass, then when West came up to stop that, it was like watching a loved one throw gas on a fire. You know what's going to happen, but all you can do is watch and hope there's a penalty, or dropped pass. The double moves made by the receivers were okay, but the plays were designed and executed to perfection. Yates was elusive, but many times he only had one player to beat to make major gains. I feel for coach Triplett, his play calling will be questioned on many occasions throughout this game, but I think losing Pendleton affected him maybe more than the players. Where does West go from here? They lost a great player in school history, but they have a ton of heart and still have a chance for the playoffs, maybe even a home game with winning out the rest of the season and a little help. Finally, we as fans need to stop a few minutes today and think of the kid sitting in a hospital room today. 24 hours ago he was in a classroom being an example for his classmates. Later he was being an example for his teammates, (we will never know what he went through just to play) then the unthinkable happened. Every person, regardless of faith, need to pray for this young man to be able to handle this major disappointment, and to keep being the example in whatever he chooses to do. I for one am sure Trevon Pendleton will succeed!

Congratulations to the Indians!
Prayers go out to the Pendleton family! Get well soon young man!

Now, how many teams are gonna keep their most-accomplished player out if he's able to go at all against a top opponent? There woulda been howls of outrage from all Sider supporters had he been benched. No one can predict an injury, and from what people have told me of Trevon before last night, he woulda been bitterly disappointed had he been kept out & I'm sure he wanted to play. He mighta been "rested" against a lesser opponent, but not against the best team they've faced this year.YoDuh wrote:I have a better idea. As I'm writing this,Trevon and his family are on their way to Cincinnati to see the Bengals Dr. He will need surgery, plates and screws in his leg and ankle, 6 weeks of no weight on it, then casted and then the heeling will begin. Screws will have to be taken out and then rehab!!! 6 months for full recovery!!
My family are very good friends with his mom, dad and brother. For those of you who don't know him personally, he is one of the finest young men I have ever met. He is not just a football player, but a great student, caring individual who lights up everyone he is around.
I just talked to him on the phone and he needs all the prayers you all can give. He is one of the strongest person you will ever meet, but he needs all the support you all can give right now!!!!!!!!
Those of you who are on here saying bad things about him/coach need to keep those thoughts to yourself!!! He does read this site and no young man should read any of those negative thoughts you have.

I thought this was a Valley - West thread! Why bring Myers and Gulley into this? BTW get your facts straight Josh Myers did NOT quit he is INJURED! He attends every practice and is on the sidelines supporting his teammates every Friday night. Prayers go out to the Pendleton family.BuckeyeFish wrote:Let it go folks; this is why you play the game.
