Paladin II: Once again, your logic is correct about why you're picking Gallia Academy to beat Portsmouth.......I hope you're wrong on your pick, though........but if our defense doesn't show up, it's simple........we won't win........from all the numbers crunching that I have heard the last few days, if the Trojans go 5-5, we are in the playoffs.....even 4-6 is possible if certain things happen........tall order, but doable.......Gallia Academy, Logan, and Ironton are all beatable.......I'm not giving up hope until we are mathematically eliminated........with as many ups and downs as we've had this year, including a key injury to Josh Myers (missed the last 4 games), making the postseason would be quite an accomplishment for our kids.

And just for the record, I didn't like to see Ironton leave the SEOAL......it made our league better.......and now that they have left, I still want to see Portsmouth play them every year.......we have played them for over 100 years and there's absolutely no reason to stop now just because they decided to leave the league. I think every school has to have some rivalries and Ironton is a big one on our schedule.

TD

Thats quite a stretch. I see Westfall, Amanda and Pleasant as schools that could jump you easy and with a loss to Gallia, the numbers change radically. I expect Logan to give you a game. But most of all, your number hinges on Wilmington winning and I see at least one more loss, maybe two for them. Reality is you may not win another game.

As for the tiggers, no one cares. Can see its a rivalry game for you. The fact is the league owes them nothing now and most should avoid playing them and doing them a favor with the schedule. If they had left for another league that would be tolerable, but everyone knows why they left. The SEOAL owes them nothing.

Your Trojans, at this point in the season, not only do not have a D, but injuries have taken a toll and you don't match up well in the last 3 games personnel-wise. Given the last 3 opponents, injuries may simply mount. While it may be possible numbers wise for the playoffs, reality is all the necessary things you need won't happen. You guys going to be good in basketball ?

Dave, would the season be complete without a Trojan-Tiger matchup.....I think not. Same as the Tomcats from across the river, two rivalries that have been around since the birth of peanut butter and they will continue. Other teams that have been around and could be considered for a spot on the Tigers schedule is Jackson, Chilli and the Blue Devils. I know a lot of old timers that enjoy these contests and I see no reason for it to stop.

Ironton will make a schedule, take that one to the bank......

Paladin II: We are looking forward to what should be a very good basketball season in Portsmouth.......3 starters back......10-4 in the SEOAL last year (tied for 3rd with Warren---behind Ironton and Chillicothe)........our hoops program is starting to show a pulse again and should be a contender for the SEOAL crown along with Chillicothe and Warren.

Glad I don't have a dog in this fight anymore! This childish back and forth between Ironton and Logan over a series that will never (should never) be renewed is tiresome. RIP!

Nearly never happens?

It's happened EVERY year since 2005. That's 6 straight years. Sounds like a trend to me.

I can understand why Gallia would like to boycott the Ironton series......after all, Ironton leads the overall series 42-13-1........
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I was waiting for someone to say it. Is this game even considered a series anymore or is it now just a stinker every year?

d@c, I agree about all the bickering and I am glad to see this series end but in passing I would like everyone to know how it all ended with Ironton leading the series that began in 1927........16 wins for the Tigers and 8 wins for the Chieftains.......forever embedded in the record books never to be altered again.....

I wasnt really looking for a laugh but that is kinda funny, not as funny as 16-8 and 42-13 but still a little humorous......and I am getting too embedded in all this talk about teams with losing records against the Tigers......

My points of view..
1) I don't know how much validity to place in the MSL rumors with Logan and Chili until it happens. Let's just leave it at that.
2) Traditional rivalries are great but if I read the sentiment from the Ironton people correct, the dollars just weren't there to remain in the SEOAL.
3) So, if you accept that premise, continuing series such as Gallipolis/Ironton makes sense from an economic prespective because the crowds still travel to those games.
4) But I wonder how the Alder and Bishop Hartley crowds will travel to the Ohio River region.
5) The tectonic plates of politics and economic realities continue to shift; the modern world ain't kind to SE Ohio.
6) What of future consolidation? It's coming!
7) The HS football landscape will be much different twenty years from now.
I think larger consolidated schools being farther apart geographically are the future in SE Ohio. How will that scramble many of the current rivalries/leagues? Don't keep looking in the rearview mirror.
