Minford lost a great roll model

Post by minfordmamma »

Please pray for the family of John Berry....he was a dad, coach, friend and roll model.

He was Minfords Freshman/ JV coach.

He will truly be missed by all that came in contact with him.

Was he related to Jeff Berry? Jeff scored the first basket in greens first game in their first game in their new gym 1974?

I am so sorry to hear about John Berry. I have had the opportunity to get to know him over the past couple of years as I've worked with him. I'm a Wheelersburg guy so you can imagine the fun/conversations we've had over that time. I can tell you, he absolutely loved his Minford Falcons and everything that came with it. I really enjoyed working with him and knowing him over that time and a great guy was lost. Prayers for the family, he will be missed in every capacity that he was associated with.

Over the past decade that I have got to know John well, and also had the opportunity to coach with him, he was an individual that certainly had my respect and full attention every time he had something to add to the conversation. He had a fatherly way of dealing with all the kids he coached and some great advice for the younger coaches as well. He was also a great juvenile Magistrate Judge for Scioto County. He knew when to be tough and knew when to give a kid a second chance. Just like he coached.

This is an absolute shock, and I’ve been in denial since I heard the news yesterday morning of how this could have happened. I want to send my prayers and thoughts to his family and let them know they are not alone during their time of need.

It's going to be difficult going into the court room again. Like I said earlier, I have really gotten to know John Berry over the past two years and have a lot of respect for him as a man in general. I always enjoyed talking about sports with him and also saw how good he was with the kids that sat in front of him. Again, prayers to the family, he will be missed.

wow--my son had to appear before him in court for a couple things recently. He was very kind and did his job well. He did seem to have a very "fatherly" tone to his demeanor. my heart goes out to the family. but the good news is he seemed right with God and his family can see him again. MD
