Re: D2
Congrats to the Blue Lions on a great season. Alter was too much for Washington CH, this from the Dayton Daily News:
WILMINGTON — Familiar foes will face off in the Division II regional volleyball final.
Alter and Tippecanoe both posted straight-set regional semifinal wins at Wilmington High School on Wednesday to earn the right to battle for a state berth Saturday. It is the fourth consecutive year that the rivals have faced each other; the Red Devils bounced the Knights out of the Southwest District tournament in 2007 while Alter forced Tippecanoe out in the regional semifinals the past two years.
“That’s a testament to Pat (Carus) and what he has done with that program,†Alter coach Tina Jasinowski said, referring to the Tipp coach. “It will be fun, it’s a nice rivalry. And, for us, it’s good motivation because the girls like to play Tipp.â€
It was the Knights’ opponent, Washington Court House, that looked motivated early Wednesday as the Blue Lions led 20-15 in the opening set. Jasinowski called a timeout to help her players refocus.
“Their setter was jump setting and we were getting faked out by her,†she said. “They were missing their defensive assignments so I told them to stay focused and execute.â€
The Knights responded as they found the gaps and capitalized on a string of Blue Lions errors. Alter closed the opening set with a 10-3 run and carried that momentum into the next two sets, finishing the night 25-23, 25-16, 25-15.
Despite being a tournament-tested team, the Knights are young and start two freshmen and a sophomore.

It definitely was a great match. It didn't matter too much which team moved on, because Alter was probably going to take care of which ever team it was. Marietta would have been honored to have made the regionals and a chance at Alter, as I'm sure CH was.lefty wrote:Marietta vs. Washington CH should be an outstanding match. Two good teams with 2 good coaching staffs. You don't want to miss this one!
I was just disappointed for Marietta to not be able to see what they could have done with their team at full strength. When Zartman, a force at the net, went down in the 4th set with a knee injury, right at the critical time when Marietta was ahead 5 points, and it looked a lot like it was going to a 5th to decide it. I just would have liked to have seen how it would have played out without the injury. I'm sure the Tigers will think for the rest of their lives that they'd have been in the regionals were it not for the injury. They'll have a lot of great memories from this season, and of course the "what if"!
