Re: TVC-Ohio Championship: Athens @ Nelsonville-York
What a classic. Great game by both teams. Congratulations Buckeyes and Coach Boston, good luck in the playoffs.
Bulldogs were just a shade less lucky than the Buckeyes. Great game Athens. Congrats to the seniors and their families. They will really be missed. Great job by the Bulldog coaches gameplanning this game. Great plays by so many different players.
Bulldogs will return a strong team, with some very good younger pieces on their way to competing for another league championship which will be decided in Week 10 next year, hopefully in a brand new stadium at Rutter Field.

Great game one of the best i have ever seen. Athens was a very strong team on both offense and defense. Both teams ran the ball very well, and passed good to. Someone had to lose though. There is nothing to be ashamed of from this loss. Hopefully Nelsonville will play as good in playoffs as they did tonight. The refs did a great job tonight also, penalties were called when they were needed but not excessively or bad ones though. Great job Buckeyes this was the best you played all year another tvc title and another playoff game.
Re: TVC-Ohio Championship: Athens @ Nelsonville-York
i saw the game on channel 15.....the safety call was horrible
Re: TVC-Ohio Championship: Athens @ Nelsonville-York
The refs are not chosen by the home team they are assigned every week by the ohsaa. They called penalties on both teams tonight not just athens. Both teams played hard and until the end the refs didnt cause athens to fumble with 55 seconds left giving us the ball to take 3 knees. Nelsonville got a great win you should congradulate them on it not try to make excuses for the losing team.tcatpride wrote:i saw the game on channel 15.....i cant believe a league championship game.....and u have roy abrams and nelsonvilles biggest fan hootie wend reffing the game.....thats a complete joke....nelsonvilles coach/ad should be ashamed
Re: TVC-Ohio Championship: Athens @ Nelsonville-York
Change what you say when someone calls you out on your ignorance smart choice. Im guessing its going to be the refs faults next friday when you play Shadyside. Good luck next week anyways who knows maybe the cats will win a state title.tcatpride wrote:i saw the game on channel 15.....the safety call was horrible

Depends on whether you're looking through orange or green tinted glasses. I haven't seen it, but from a good view live, I'd say forward progress was where they marked it. I could run to the 1, ,and then be thrown out the back of the end zone, and it woudln't be a safety. These refs seemed to like the 5 yard face-mask both ways though.bucks_09 wrote:The refs are not chosen by the home team they are assigned every week by the ohsaa. They called penalties on both teams tonight not just athens. Great game by both teams. Too bad someone had to lose. A-town should be a hand full next year. Maybe Devon has an affinity for Rocky boots, and wants to move 12 miles west.

Good luck to all area teams that make it to week 11. Looks like Alex and Trimble both pull the 8 seed and travel to Ironton and Shadyside. Yikes. NY travels to Minford.

OH MY GOD! Just got to watch the replay. Wasnt at the game didnt hear it. From reading on here I thought the so called saftey was at the end of the game. OK with the non saftey. He was out of the endzone and the defender pulled him back so the ref gave him the spot where he was. That was the at the start of the 4th quarter... Here is the play of the game. Athens takes a 6 point lead with 3 minutes to go in the game. NY was having trouble moving the ball. First you kick it and they get it back to mid field. Then You give up a TWO PLAY SCORING DRIVE!!! 2 passes 50 yards and a touchdown. when the game is on the line. Then you turned the ball over and NY takes a knee. SAFTEY, blown calls? You took the lead with 3 minutes left and give up a 2 play scoring drive... There was blown calls on both sides. The no call on the play where the athens line backer tackles the receiver on third and long 10 yards down the field in the third may have been just as big. It was a great game and NY had some big plays as did athens and they lost by 1. No way did the officiating decide this game

First off check the names of the people posting about officiating, I haven't seen one Athens fan blame the loss on that yet. The people making those posts are from other area schools. We had a chance to win the game with less than a minute to go and that's all we could ask for, the officiating may have had some questionable calls but show me a high school game that doesn't. We'll work hard and hopefully get em' next year.Green Beagle wrote:OH MY GOD! Just got to watch the replay. Wasnt at the game didnt hear it. TO TCATPRIDE
You may want to get your facts straight before you run your mouth about the referees! Hootie Wend was NOT even at the game last night!! Roy Abrams was the line judge (who is NOT from Nelsonville) he threw 2 flags the whole night BOTH ON NELSONVILLE! With that being said, both teams played a heck of a game! Congrats to both!

Just to clarify; the OHSAA does not assign officials for high school league contests! They do assign for the state sanctioned playoffs based on the recommendations of the ADs and Head Coaches of it's member schools.
Some Conferences / League choose to have assigners, the TVC does not utilize this practice (which it needs!). In the TVC it is solely at the discretion of the AD as to what officials they hire as long as they are certified through the OHSAA to do varsity contests.

The officials did not dictate the outcome of the game, the boys on the field did. Congrats to NY and Goodluck to all the area teams that make it to week 11. Hopefully with some luck and secondary points, NY will be hosting, but it will be very close in points.Green Beagle wrote:OH MY GOD! Just got to watch the replay. Wasnt at the game didnt hear it. My only questionable call of the whole game is, what BONEHEAD coach call a full kickoff after you score to make it 21-13 with 33 seconds to go in the half? The ball should have been squibbed up the middle. At that point, Athens would have most likely tried to run out the clock or we may have recovered, there was absolutely no one for athens in the middle of the field, but no, the ball is kicked to probably the fastest kid on the field deep, where he has the full vision of the field and he made NY pay for it... Great run back. Good Luck to all that make the playoffs....

Re: TVC-Ohio Championship: Athens @ Nelsonville-York
I've read here and elsewhere that the officials were from NY. May we have a list please? They are paid professionals, so having their names on a message board seems appropriate to me.
Roy Abrams has already been noted. He is not from the NY school district. Also, I see him umpire in Athens softball games frequently, and he umpired baseball at Federal Hocking on occasion. I have also heard him talk sports with someone I know, and he isn't always "high" on NY even though he knows the person is a NY guy. Nothing too severe, but he certainly isn't a homer.
Again, the missed PI call led to a TD for Athens (NY pinned, 3 and out, punt return for TD). You can't just add another TD to the total. The entire sequence would have changed. Plus, Athens was stopped three times inside NY's redzone and had two special teams scores. They were probably better off getting rid of the ball and getting a shot at a return.
As for the safety no-call, I haven't seen it. However, from watching football on a near daily basis, the safety is rarely given unless it is absolutely obvious. It is almost as if there is a presumption in favor of the offense. Right or wrong, that is the common practice among football officials: Don't call a safety unless absolutely certain.
Anyway, please give a list of officials. Let's back up assertions with facts. Also, please give an explanation of how NY somehow exerts such a strong influence over the entire officiating profession in the area.
Though as I see it, in the last 20, Athens is 1-9 against NY on the road and 1-9 against NY at home. NY must be bringing the officials on the bus with them.
Also note, so far the Athens people are pretty tame on this site. I however have been reading these claims on social networking sites.

Thanks for your two cents to stir the pot Orestes - get lost!!!!!!! You dont even have a dog in this fight. Whats your motive?
Re: TVC-Ohio Championship: Athens @ Nelsonville-York
What a great game. First time I have seen both teams play but how did Athens lose to Alex.
As for the "safety". I was standing right there and it was the correct call. actually the ball should have been spotted farther out, but the correct call. Now for the PI, man that was close, but I thought the NY back got there a split second too early.
Anyways, one heck of a high school football game.

Buckeyes own the dogs thats all there is to it.

Re: TVC-Ohio Championship: Athens @ Nelsonville-York
I didn't bring up the issue of poor officiating. My post was a rebuttal to those complaining about calls. Not sure how that equals stirring the pot. I admitted that the Athens people have been tame on this thread. That doesn't mean they haven't emoted elsewhere.Spartan wrote:Thanks for your two cents to stir the pot Orestes - get lost!!!!!!! Though, apparently nothing has been stirred as there doesn't seem to be a lot of heated debate flowing from my post. However, even if there is debate, who cares? This board is for debate. Unless it is lowered to personal attacks, it's all part of being on the board.
Plus, I would be lying if I didn't admit to wanting an NY win. I have been following them since childhood.
