Re: SOC2 Championship: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth West
Congrats BURG!!! Keep it rollin' into the second season.
Re: SOC2 Championship: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth West
i would have punted and took my chances at holding burg!! west was playing an awsome game and i think if they could have held burg there or maybe force a turn over.. west might be on the winning end of this game!!ManitouDan wrote:any comments on a choice west could have when they were 4th down and 16 or 17 yards to go from their own 10 or 12 yard line -- I thought maybe take a safety to go down 26-21 , then you have a shot at an on side kick ? Was about 3 min left at the time. just a thought.
West had the rock rockin when they got the ball back at the 5 min mark but went backwards from the 20. just couldn't execute any O. Burg D came up big. vey good game. MD

Congrats to Wheelersburg on the victory, SOC II championship, and a playoff berth.
This was a great game to watch. Both teams left it on the field. West had a chance to win it with about 5 minutes left and the ball, Wheelersburg just stepped up on defense.
This was a good ole fashion Wheelersburg/West matchup.
Now all of Scioto county scrambles to find out who they play and where. I really hope that West, Wheelersburg, Valley, and Minford all make the playoffs. Would say something about southern ohio football, and the SOC II. Love this time of the year.

I totally agree with you, Alot of credit goes out to the West players. With Pendleton and Compton out everyone stepped up, and for the most part contained Schank.
Re: SOC2 Championship: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth West
Great Job Burg- one comment for the officials- Mr Cook line judge- should absolutely not be permitted to do any Burg Games- very obvious that he does not care for the burg- you dont look where the down marker is while your running to spot the ball, measure the ball when the coaches ask for it and its that close- and personal foul- bad call, helping the other team out- put him opposite of the burg on the opposing teams side- whomever assigns him- it is way to obvious that he does not care for the burg- other than that good job burg

Re: SOC2 Championship: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth West
Great ballgame and very even ballgame. Several times the West players shot themselves in foot. Still overall, fun game to watch and Burg is lucky to come away with the win. Coach Triplett and team did a great job without a full starting lineup. Congrats Coach Woodward and Burg on finally winning SOC. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs.

I tell you one thing if it was not for Coach-T West would not be where they are at during this part of the season. If that is all the West people think about him, if I was him I would move on. He spends all his time working with the kids all winter and summer and this is all the West fans can say, I would love to see him Coach my high school team.West_Sider wrote:I dont like to be critical of coaches. But, every time Coach calls a timeout I get a sick feeling in my stomach getting ready for his play call. Against Valley, he calls two timeouts on a fourth and 9 and the game on the line.. The best he comes up with is running off tackle...game over.. This week, calls a timeout, we come out in the "Fullhouse T"...????? Did he really think that the Wheelersburg players were going to think that West was running a sweep? As soon as we pitched the ball even my 7 year old knew it was a halfback pass. In that situation, you either punt the ball, take a safety and go for an onside kick, or you come up with a play that gives you an opportunity to get the 16 yards. A halfback pass might work against some teams, but not against the kids on Wheelersburgs defense.
Anyway, on to week 11 West lost a couple tough games in the last few weeks, but they have been involved in close games against good competition, this will be a benefit come playoff time. Remember, in 2002 that team finished 8-2 and those two losses made them a better team in the playoffs.
West fans get behind your Coach and Team and stop pointing your finger at your Coach because there are three fingers pointing back at you.

Hey, at no point did I say he wasnt a good coach. However, players and coaches alike should always strive to strengthen their weaknesses. You have to self-evaluate as a team, a player, and as a coach. I'm happy we have him as a coach. But, a "team" improving includes a coaching staff IMHO.Football Crazy # 1 wrote:I tell you one thing if it was not for Coach-T West would not be where they are at this time. BTW, looks like West clinched a playoff berth.. Update three of five has us traveling to Columbus against Hartley.. However, that could change depending on our final point total.

It sounds like it was a great game and much closer than the final score indicated. I was really surprised to see West play that close with all of kids they had out of this one due to injury. I am more suprised to see Shankweiler have less than 200 yards rushing.

Congrats Burg on winning the SOC. Tough to go and play at West especially when the gold trophy is on the line. Once again a typical Burg-West game that isn't decided until the last minutes.
Now time to refocus and concentrate on who it is that will be coming to Ed Miller stadium next week. You guys need to show tham what Pirate football is all about.
On a side note, Trevon Pendleton, you are a class act in my book. Not to many players would have came over to congratulate the team that just won the SOC on your turf and on crutches to boot. I'm praying for a speedy recovery for you and looking forward to rooting for you on Saturday afternoons in the near future. Good luck in whatever the future holds for you.

Burg doesn't always need Schank to rush for 200 yards or more to win a ballgame. Luster played huge, with a big run and big run after a screen pass as did Shears. Even though he made a couple of mistakes on a couple of passes, he still threw the ball well and the coaching staff finally started using there 6'6" WR. It paid off tonight as on two of his catches, he just outjumped the defender
Re: SOC2 Championship: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth West

Re: SOC2 Championship: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth West

Looks like the Pirates will be hosting Ridegwood according to Joe Eital. The Burg finished 3rd and Ridgewood 6th even though they are 10-0. I believe Burg played them a while back and beat them at home in the playoffs. I think it was 2007 and the Burg won 21-13 if I remember correctly.

It shows them now in 4th and Minford in 5th. If that stays true to form then they will meet the Falcons for the 2nd time this year.
