Could Symmes Valley have won the OVC this year?
Not saying at all that Symmes Valley belongs in the OVC. Why be the smallest fish in the pond when you don't have to be. I don't think they could compete every year as the smallest school in the conference. I think they are absolutely fine exactly where they are at. That being said, do you think that they would have won the OVC this year?

Probably not. And the above statement is the dumbest thing I've read
on this site for days.

First of all, let me say that this is coming from a diehard, loyal SV fan of over 40 years.
I think it is a bit of a stretch to say SV would take the OVC this year. While I do believe they would be very competitive with any OVC team this year on any given Friday night, playing OVC teams week in and out over a season is different. They certainly would not have been the doormat or homecoming game for each team this year like they so often were when they were in the OVC.
For the long haul though, I'm fine with us remaining in the SOC I.

Who knows. Anything is possible. What we do know is that we soundly defeated the OVC championship team this year, but like SVDAD said, that doesn't mean we would have won all the games Chesapeake did.
The SOC I is a much better fit for us. We compete against schools which are our size.

I believe they would compete for the title year in and out if they were playing in the OVC.

Re: Could Symmes Valley have won the OVC this year?
I think they could also...coming from a RH fan. This area just isn't what it used to be. I don't know what all has led to this (loss of jobs I think) but all of the Lawrence County schools...including Ironton...just are not what they used to be. Participation is awful...most of the teams don't even field JV week to week. I hear that RV may be leaving the OVC after next year or even maybe now for the TVC, I don't see why Oak Hill and Symmes Valley would even blink when thinking about the possibility of coming back to the OVC.
The "new" old OVC
Coal Grove
Rock Hill
South Point
Fairland
Chesapeake
Oak Hill
Symmes Valley...that would make a 7 team league allowing 4 non-conference games. If SV or OH win their non-conference and even split the league games then they should have a pretty good chance of making the playoffs at 7-3 in a routine year..SV would be in easy. If they don't make it (the playoffs) while playing in the OVC then who really cares?

For instance:
Symmes Valley schedule:
Notre Dame
East
Green
North West
OVC....I think most years pull at least 3 if not 4 wins from the OVC...add those to non-conference wins and they probably host a playoff every year.

We are just fine where we are at. Sure we can play with OVC teams on some years like this one and the next few but it is hard to play against schools with two time the boys we have week in and week out.
Re: Could Symmes Valley have won the OVC this year?
I have to agree with most on here. Fuzzhead, s.v.vikinglinex2, 1longtimeviking. The Vikings are going to have some pretty good years from time to time but it is not good for them to have to play bigger schools week in and week out. I would be afraid that when they would have a couple of down years it may become prolonged with kids losing interest in playing and the program could really take a nose dive, just like it was years ago. I remember those days. Going through different coaches every few years and never recover.
Things seem very stable right now with the coaching staff, they play a schedule that gets them in to the playoffs and even able to host. The program is consistant and there are several athletes waiting their chance to show what they can do when they get to the varsity stage. Things look really good. I think the SOC is a good place for the Vikings to be.

Symmes Valley needs to stay in the SOC, but I would like to see the vikes play more OVC teams. I think it would be good for SV to play some more teams from Lawrence county, it would be good for the fans and it would create some good rivalries
Re: Could Symmes Valley have won the OVC this year?
But for instance: they won't win 3 or 4 games a year in the ovc.
