Judging from the stats that Ironman92 posted, it appears that Eaton likes to throw the football. This may be a battle of contrasting styles, because you know the Ironmen are going to look to establish the running game early and often. Despite the differing offensive approaches, these two schools and football programs are very similar. Small towns that take a lot of pride in their football program, both programs are proven winners, and have a handful of playoff appearances.

Eaton has made playoff appearances in 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2000, and 1989. Can any of the Eaton fans give me a full summary of their playoff history, specifically 1989? I've already found the results from the other seasons. I'll be posting the playoff history for both schools shortly.

Very excited about this game. I think it has the potential to be an outstanding football game. Eaton has the advantage of playing at home, but the Jackson program has gone on the road to win a huge playoff game in the past. Should be an interesting Saturday night.

I have contacts at several SW Ohio programs. My Eaton contact has told me the coaching staff has aid that Jackson was the one team in region 12 they were hoping to avoid.

Does this mean they're worried about Jackson's running game?

I don't know much about Eaton at the moment, but as I said earlier, it looks like they're very capable of throwing the football. If that completion percentage is correct, it's simply amazing. Jackson has traditionally had trouble with teams that can really throw the football, but this particular Jackson team has a very solid secondary. The thing that I worry about is the loss of our All-SEOAL DB, Kip Winchester, who was also our QB before suffering a knee injury in Week 9. Kip is a great defensive back, and having him against a passing team like Eaton would have been nice. However, we have some other DBs that are fully capable of getting the job done.

Should be interesting to see how these two teams match up.

02....I may be confusing myself but the first 2 years of Jackson playoff games (1996 and 1997) they only took 4 from each region...thus making the games vs Hillsboro and Youngstown East (worst ending ever) regional semifinals....the DeSales loss was a regional final as there were just 8 teams remaining.

If I rememeber correctly three of our better teams of the past 30 years finished 5th in the region during the years they only took 4 teams. 1990, 1994, 1998.....seems like each were just a tenth of a point from making it.

Eaton shouldn't be over looked they are a team that seems to get alot of transfers every year and sends a lot of kids to college.
That being said Jackson has a good chance for a win here being their kids have played together over the years.

I think you are mistaken on the transfers & college kids. Eaton is a farming community west of Dayton. Trotwood Madison is maybe who you are thinking of as far as the transfers & college recruits.

BTW, Not much seating on the visitors side of the stadium, but I have heard they may be bringing in some bleachers.

I used to live in middletown and it was known they would get several transfers in every year some said just because it was one of the better programs around and they would get better opportunities for scholarships some said it was more disruptive for the program because the kids never played together enough and it showed in playoffs not saying anything bad about them.
Just remembered that was a big thing when I lived there and people at work talked alot about it.

Where's the good eatin' around Eaton?

New poster here. I am a southern Ohio football fan, having family in the area. I am, however, a product of one of the many west-of-Dayton farming communities, one that plays in the same league as Eaton.

First of all, the schedule for the Eagles was not as weak as it may seem. The Eagles also defeated Germantown Valley View (6-4) who had a very strong offense. St. Henry, while 3-7, is still a good football team. They play in the MAC and anyone who follows HS football knows that is probably the one of the toughest leagues in the state.

Secondly, the Eagles are very explosive on offense. QB Cole French is a 6'4" JR who is being recruited by DI coaches in both football and basketball - he could still use some polish at the QB position but in having talked to several people who have seen him play both sports, he is an explosive athlete. Woods at WR is also in the 6'1"-6'2" range and is also very athletic. Eaton's line is large and well-coached. Defensively, they only gave up double-digit points to Germantown Valley View, who has a DI commit at QB and was very good on offense.

Eaton is by no means unstoppable but they are a very good high school football team. I'm not sure where the transfer comments are coming from, an earlier poster was correct in saying they are pretty much 100% corn-fed farm boys. Don't know a ton about Jackson but any victory over tradition-rich Ironton is an impressive one.

One other note, Eaton has very limited visitor seating and parking, as the stadium is tucked back in a corner of a neighborhood and some woods. There is no track at the field either, so the stands there are are RIGHT on the field. Most people complain about this stuff but personallly I think it is one of those neat places to watch a football game, lots of character. Good luck to both teams!

crebman 1 is absolutely correct about the transfers. I assure you that Eaton is 99% homegrown. There are a couple of underclassmen that have recently moved, not transfered, into the area. One day, if they work hard enough, they will see the field on Friday nights. The boys that Jackson will see this Saturday have been playing ball together for a long time. They are very team oriented and play the game like a team should. They play for each other. You will find no egos on the field at anytime, but you will see a good group of boys that play as one.
As far as the gentleman from Middletown, I have no idea where he got his info from. We are a small town school that would welcome any kid that would like to be a part of any sport here in Eaton. They would be treated as all the others; they would have to earn a position and the respect of those who have been in the programs for years. I have a feeling that he may be talking about Carlisle or maybe Valley View who have been fighting over kids for the last couple of years (maybe longer). These two schools mentioned are both strong programs in the SWBL and are approx. 10 miles from each other. I hope this clears up any confusion on the "transfer" issue. I am looking forward to a good game between two schools that love their high school football. Here's to an injury free game with lots of action.

My cousin who lives in Eaton , told me that their team is a really good team. I told him that so is ours, that's why they are in the play-offs. lol If the Ironmen continue play like they did Friday, we can go deep into the play offs. I still don't know too much about Eaton, other than what I have read on Yappi. It looks like they run the spread, which will be very difficult to defend. Jackson hasn't faced too many pass-oriented teams this season, but this group of kids has been exposed to it in the past. I'll be interested to see what type of defensive scheme Coach Hall and his staff put together for this game. Might be something similar to what we saw against Logan last season...but that's obviously just a guess on my part.

The Eagles also appear to be very capable of running the football, so they have a pretty diverse offensive attack and quite a few playmakers that they incorporate into their offense. It seems like the O-Line has good size and is very talented as well.

It has been mentioned on Yappi that Eaton's D-Line is VERY good, so that will be an interesting matchup with the Jackson O-Line. I'm sure they'll be looking to stack the box and shut down the Jackson ground game, so I would think that the Ironmen will have to throw the ball with some success to at least keep them honest. If Eaton's defense is as talented as I think they are, Jackson will have to play VERY well offensively. Because of Eaton's offensive scheme and big play ability, Jackson will really have to control the clock and win the time of possession battle.

I'm confident in our football team and I think this is a game they can win, but it certainly won't be easy. Eaton is 10-0 for a reason, and they have been very impressive the entire year. They've really only played one close game against St. Henry, and while that Redskin team is 3-7 this year, they're still a good team, as was mentioned before. The MAC is probably the premier small-school conference in the entire state, so that 9-7 result in Week 2 is still a quality win. At the same time, Jackson's Week 1 loss to Wellston means very little at this point too. The Ironmen had beaten their rival 19 times in a row, but they didn't play well in the opener and the Rockets did. Anyway, both schools have an impressive resume with some quality wins. I'm expecting this to be one of the best games in Region 12 this week, and honestly, it's anybody's ball game, in my opinion. On paper, it looks like two pretty evenly matched football teams, so it should be a battle.

Iron02, I agree that it is good to the history of each program. It seems that we have a lot of similarities. You will find the Eaton fans and community polite and respectful. We are proud of our kids and support them in all of their efforts.

The obvious differences in these two teams is their offenses. We run the spread and throw the ball around as much as we run.
Your last game there was one pass attempt. Your team is what I call grinders and play smashmouth run football. We have faced a couple of run oriented teams but I doubt with the same ability as the Ironmen. On the flip side, I don't think the Ironmen have faced such a diverse offense that can score in various ways. Many of our games we have throttled back the offense. Our Coach, Ron Neanon has been with Eaton for 23 years and he is known for shutting it down early and not letting the score get out of hand. Our last game the score was 41 - 0 at the half and finished 48 - 7. My point being, our offense can score, the storyline to me going into this game is can we slow down your running game? Our secondary leads our league in takeaways and if we can make you pass we like our chances. I think getting you to that point is easier said than done. You don't make it to the playoffs unless you have the ability to impose your will.
We have two good teams that have outstanding lines on both sides of the ball, I look for this to be a great game that will test the mettle of both teams. I hope that we have a great game that is injury free. Go Eagles!
