D4 R15 - #1 Ironton vs. #4 Highland at Logan
Re: D4-REG.15-#1 IRONTON VS. SPARTA HIGHLAND.
I believe we played Highland in round #1 last year and won 36 - 0, if anyone wants to take anything from that score. I look for the Tigers to advance.
Re: D4-REG.15-#1 IRONTON VS. SPARTA HIGHLAND.
GO TIGERS GO!! If Ohsaa is wanting turf fields, they may make this a cincy or Cbus game? I hope they play in Logan. That would push the Burg game to NY sat night. Ahh, anyway, take it to em TIGERS!

Ironton wins, but they'd better cut down on the penalties and mistakes. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to this one. Let's go Ironton! Bring home that regional title!

Re: D4-REG.15-#1 IRONTON VS. SPARTA HIGHLAND.
A few miscellaneous comments.
- The River Valley that Highland played is in Marion County, and is sometimes referred to as Marion River Valley.
- Sparta is a village in Morrow County; 2000 population was 191. It is SE of the county seat, Mt. Gilead; and roughly 40 miles N and slightly E of Columbus.
- I think Ironton is better this season than last, and Ironton did beat Highland last year in week 11. It would seem that Highland would have to be much, much improved in order to have a chance this time. But upsets happen.
- I'd like to see this game played at Portsmouth but I think the chances of that are zero. Maybe the OHSAA will cut Ironton some slack and have the game at Jackson (assuming they applied for a game, I think the chances would be better now that Jackson is out of the playoffs).

No, what I'm saying is that Ironton won't give away 7 possessions off of fumbles against Highland as West did. If Highland was worth its salt they should have beat West by 50 in that game. Sparta Highland was the 4th best team West played this year behind Minford, Valley, and Wheelersburg and thats the worst game I have seen West play in years. That does not bode well for Sparta against the Fighting Tigers. When a team doubles their turnovers that they have for the entire year in one game you had a bad night.KVDW wrote:so, you're sayin that Ironton won't have any problems with a little team from "the middle of nowhere" that layed such a whoopin on YOU. so you honestly think ironton is that much better than West, huh ?West_Sider wrote:More of the Wing-T next Friday for Ironton's defense. to be more correct, i guess i should have said that ironton is that much better than west WAS!![]()

Our esteemed Tribune sports writer seems to think this game will be played in Athens.

thats what some friends last night were indicating that they were hearing. anywhere it is tiger nation will be there. the fighting tigers were a meat grinder friday. there was some big hitting in that game. coshocton looked completely perplexed and exhausted fairly early in the second quarter. the tigers are pulling it all together now. and now the threat of a passing game is involved. we will be a much harder team to scout. GO TIGERS GO

The fighting tigers are MUCH BETTER & MORE DANGEROUS on both sides of the ball compared to last year! I would think SPARTA would also be improved, but it's hard to say with WEST having 7 turnovers! The ONE thing that concerns me about IHS is the UNSPORTSMANLIKE LIKE CALLS & OVERALL PENALTIES, from this past game! Both IHS & CHS were swamped with penalties!
It seems the refs this year are NOT taking any BS from the teams on & off the field of play!!! LUTZ never has a problem with players acting up & this must STOP! I truly think IRONTON WILL SEND THE SCOTS PACKING!!! I TRULY think the only thing standing in Ironton's way of a regional championship is themselves! They must stop the refs for having a reason to throw down some yellow in the game!!!
MARCH ON TIGERS!!!

i would love for this game to be played at jackson also. i would expect jackson, athens or nelsonville. either of those places is fine with me. i just hope they dont put us at logan or lancaster. too far for me. highland likes to spread it out and i am sure the film from last years game will be helpful for both teams. not sure if anyone need film of ironton, they have pretty much been doing the same thing 35 years. its hard to get a good gauge of how good highland is, i know west was a good football team and the score by which sparta won is kinda deceptive. was it that lopsided because highland is that good or because of the turnovers. obviously, you are gonna get beat if you turn it over 6 times but you gotta give highland at least some credit for the turnovers, regardless if it was them stripping the ball or extra effort by the west kids or whatever. lutz and company will have plenty to work on this week getting ready, in the portsmouth paper they asked lutz what ironton needed to work on to get ready for highland and it says he didnt hesitate when he said "our composure" . obviously he was not pleased with the penaltys and i bet he will be getting some kids attention this week at practice.

i don't know either, i saw a lot of extra cirricular stuff out of the redskins once they got behind. always some crap going on after the play, especially after a score. we must be careful not to get anybody tossed. even if it is in retaliation. and it's usually the second guy , standing his ground after a late hit , that gets caught. if coshocton would have played with the same attitude during a play as they did after one. it could possibly have been a closer game. they were worn out, and beaten, and just a lot of stuff after plays out of frustration.

The Oak Hill- Minford game will be at Jackson. Good Luck to the Ironton Fighting Tigers. I'm sure the Logan people will treat you well.
