An early look at the 2011 Season

Post by socman »

SOC II

Waverly - Return 6 starters including two 1st team all-district performers Chris Wiget and Brady Collins. Wiget and Roseberry both return as their leading scorers from 2010.
Three highly regarded freshman will also look to make an immediate impact on the team. The Tigers return 4 of their defensive 6 and 2 of their starting attackers.

Wheelersburg- Lose Dillan Lewis but Braxton Jarvis returns as the team leader.

Minford - Lose some good seniors and will have a new coaching staff

Northwest

West

SOC I

South Webster - Lose the core of their great teams from the past few years. It will be interesting to see how some of the younger guys step up and take their place in the system.

New Boston - Should be much improved as they fielded a very young team in 2010

Valley - Lose Chaffin

Clay - Lose Valentine

Eastern

Unioto

Boys- Lose a solid senior class, but return a loaded sophomore class and also will get a very good group of freshmen. Next year should be a better season, but it's the year after when Unioto should really step back into the race for a district championship race for the first time in a few seasons.

Girls- Regional Runner Up returns all 11 starters and every letter winner as well. Good 8th grade class will provide needed depth and some extra time to establish a full time keeper will also help. Look for the schedule to get beefed up even more as they will try and push for a final four appearance.

Another squad that will definitely make some noise will be Chillicothe. They lost two of the school's all-time greats and after a rocky start, rebound and make it back to the district championship round. They have a great program(boys and girls) and will be a force to be reckoned with once again.

With so many talented seniors graduating it will be interesting to see who steps up, and if any incoming Freshmen will make an impact! New Boston has a great chance to grab the soc1 with a young group gaining experience this season.

Warren Girls are looking to come back stronger than ever.
Hoping to fight for sections along side Logan of course.
Off Season is spent working on foot skills and control in indoor.
Preparing for next season.

I am interested in what teams will be potentional SOC champions this coming season. Waverly, Wheelersburg, Minford & South Webster have been the leaders of the conferences the last several years. Will they still be or are there other teams that will step up?

The SOCII should be more of the same with Waverly and Wheelersburg leading the way. SOCI may be closer than it has been for a few years. SW lost a lot of talent and will likely be very short on numbers after losing a big graduating class.

Minford will be in the mix in soc. What can the new coaching staff get out of them? Waverly team to beat in 2011.

I carefully watched the Waverly players during the 8v8 games this year. While I understand this is not a good look as a team I did come away feeling like you could be right. They have a couple guys that are pretty good. But can they pull of team play. Waverly....you will do well if you use your team mates. Burg...Same for you. If you don't play as a team and keep cool on the field your Win / Lose numbers will not be what you want.

Good luck to both teams. Of course I will be at every Burg game I can get too. Got to root for my tax dollars!

Unioto scrimmaged and played a very solid game against Logan (who also played very well) last evening with a reserve win of 1-0 and a varsity win of 2-0. This was the first scrimmage in which the actual reserve and varsity teams played their own games. Several Unioto freshmen were able to play both reserve and varsity and made great contributions in both games. Several of the upper classmen also stepped up to varsity from reserves last year and had a great showing as well. Unioto will play their season opening at Jonathon Alder Saturday evening.

Good luck to all teams this season!

Chillicothe Cavaliers 2011

Return just 6 Varsity letter winners
Return 4 starters; GK, one defender, 2 midfielders

Chillicothe will be very young and inexperienced in 2011, and for the most part unproven. This year's varsity squad will consist 15 players, (4 seniors, 4 juniors, 6 sophomores, and onf freshman.)

The Cavs have played quite a few games to date to get the young team prepared. Played 5 half games in the Pete Raffa Tournament in Bowling Green July 9-10. Played 4 60 minute games the following weekend in the Jarosi-Willis Tournament in Westerville. Had full game scrimmages at Alexander, at Xenia, and home vs Zane Trace. Participated in a 4-way scrimmage at Bellbrook. The final tune-up was last night at home against Zane Trace. Cavs won 4-0.

Chillicothe will get tested early. The early schedule is very tough for a young squad. Open at home with Dublin Scioto Tuesday, August 23. The next 5 opponents following that game are Fairfield Union, Warren, Athens, Logan, and Marietta.

The strength of the squad lies in their Sophomore and Junior classes. The Cavs will likely start only 2 seniors. Should be very strong again in 2012 and beyond.

Rebuilding year in 2011? Have to wait and see....there are many question marks. The talent is there though for another solid year.

Eastern from the SOC should have one of the best seasons the school has had in their young history of the sport. They beat Piketon in a scrimmage 7-2, and tied South Point 1-1.
This team will be an interesting competitor in the SOC I this year, and may surprise a few people. I don't see them winning 10 games, no. But they will compete more and win more.
