OVC predictions, 2011...

Post by fuzzhead »

Well the season is almost totally over now and has been for a while in OVC land. Let's hear some predictions for next year. There's some very solid talent coming back for a few teams.

Well if they Chesapeake Coaching Staff stays the same then this is how the league will unfold.

1. Chesapeake (8-2) (Playoffs)
2. Coal Grove (7-3) (Maybe Playoffs)
3. Rock Hill (5-5) (No Playoffs)
4. Fairland (4-6) (No Playoffs)
4. South Point (3-7) (No Playoffs)
5. River Valley (2-8) (No Playoffs)

If the non-league schedules all stay the same, Chesapeake could enter conference play at 5-0, as could CG. I think you're about dead on with your order of finish. Peake, RH and CG all return some quality pieces especially at QB.
The OVC could put on a respectable non-league showing next year...

What makes you think that the teams that Chesapeake and Coal Grove play in the nonconference won't be improved as well?? As far as Rock Hill and South Point are concerned there is no where to go but up.

Gangster Unit, Nobody said they would not be improved but as for Chesapeakes sched. idk how much more improved they can be because they were all Top-Notch Teams last year. But think about it, Oak Hill loses their All-State Quarterback, Runningback, Wide Reciever, and 2 Lineman. Portsmouth West loses i believe 2 runningbacks their QB and some key o-lineman, for Symmes Valley well i think they will be back to normal next year, for Valley they will be pretty good again their best player is back at QB, and Wayne doesn't lose much. So it is still gonna be a tough non-conference scheual for Chesapeake and Coal Grove.

Hornets will go 6-4. One of those 6 wins will be over Chesapeake, cause they play at home!

I can't see any team on Chesapeake's schedule making the playoffs next year. None of them will be as good as this year.

West will be better in 2011 than 2010, probably a lot better. West will be right at the top of the region, and I say that not as a fan, as rather as a realist. By the time the playoff game rolled around we were playing with 5 seniors that started, which means we will have a plenty of experienced juniors a group of about 11-12 seniors, a 3 year starter at quarterback, and plenty of experience on both sides of the ball. West will be as good as it wants to be, and even though Peake will probably be the cream of crop in the Ovc, I don't think they will beat West, however if they do it will be a ton of points

Yes, i agree i'm not sure how you would think none of them would make the playoffs! I said Peake would go 8-2. The 2 they would lose would be Valley and West. Valley should have made the playoffs this year rather than CG! And Chesapeake plays Wayne, WV who is a shoe-in every year in the WV playoffs and that gives good points to Peake if they beat them b/c they are a bigger school. So i think 3 non-ovc schools on Chesapeake's Sched will make the playoffs! And i remember attending some Peake vs. Valley games i think it was 3 years in a row they were 1 point games i think next year could be one of those! As for West they have a good Coaching Staff, Hard Nosed Kids, and a good weight room program and with those three things you get success on a regular basis!

Wayne is not an Ohio team so I don't count WV playoffs. Yes, I know they are always tough. Valley had an amazing team this year but lose key players. It'll be hard for them to make the playoffs especially if their non-conference schedule is as weak as it was this year and the SOCII has another good year. Who knows, West might be good again and may crush Peake. Wouldn't be anything
out of the ordinary by OVC standards, but I wouldn't count on a blowout. And in a region as weak as 15, playoff spots are just waiting to be filled. We'll just have to see how the region even pans out after some schools move up or down a division...

How can't you count Wayne as a playoff team? Just b/c they are in WV doesn't just make them not a playoff team in Ohio! If Chesapeake beats them and they have a good record then Chesapeake will get good playoff points b/c of the school size difference. How can you say Valley's non-conference schedual was week? The best two teams CG played was Peake and Valley! and what happend to CG?

CGs schedule was relatively weak. The difference was they played two D2 teams who finished at .500 and were rewarded accordingly. Valley won the OVC so to speak in non-conference, and also played a winless Huntington-Ross team first game of the year. That won't cut it if you have 2 or three potential loses in conference play. CG's non-conference opponents were much better than Valley's. Not that CG's non-conference schedule had anything to do with what we were talking about. Believe me, I'm not taking anything away from Wayne. Their domination of Chesapeake has spoken for itself.

What does the future hold for River Valley? Will they be better or will they leave the OVC?

RV is reportedly leaving for the TVC starting in the fall of 2014.

They've still got that long? Wow! Hopefully they can turn it around before they leave. It certainly won't get any easier in the TVC Ohio...

It's a long time between now and August, but on paper, Wayne should be a bit better next year than it was this year.

Wayne lost 17 seniors and a junior all-stater from the 2009 state runner-up team. They had 8 new starters on offense in 2010, and 8 on defense. They lose 9 seniors from 2010...MLB, 2 DT's, DE, DB, C, RG, FB, TB...but the kids coming back should improve greatly. 2010 was a rebuilding year for Wayne...they just weren't as good at the line of scrimmage as they had been in the past. That gave them some struggles at times. The kid who led Wayne in rushing in 2010 did not play against Chesapeake because of an ankle injury he had the previous week.

Chesapeake was very strong on the interior last year, and I suspect Wayne at Chesapeake will be a very, very good ballgame. With everyone getting a year older, it will be interesting to see who makes the most noticeable improvements next September.

Wayne being a AA school (D-IV sized), there are approximately 40 teams in the classification, which isn't much different from a region in Ohio.

Most of the last decade, Wayne would likely be comparable to Ironton/Wheelersburg/Portsmouth West. Not always that good, but in the ballpark. This past year, Wayne was not at that level...was more like Coal Grove/Chesapeake.
