2011 Waverly Football
Re: 2011 Waverly Football
According to the schedule posted, it is a Friday game for Piketon/Waverly.
Re: 2011 Waverly Football
I agree with smurray. Just imagine the environment with it being on a Saturday night. It's a backdoor rivalry that many football fans around southern Ohio might just make the trip up to watch. I can assure you many other coaches, players, and fans that watch their respected teams on Friday night would love to watch a game like that. That's what Saturday nights would make more sense. More revenue for the hosting school as well.

I agree sider, that would be a tough schedule for many teams.sider wrote:Its a very a tough schedule for a team thats rebuilding, they play potentially 5 playoff teams and probably 7-8 that will have winning records
Re: 2011 Waverly Football

Haven't heard much talk, who will we be seeing at the "skill" positions for the Tigers this fall?
Re: 2011 Waverly Football
I'm really looking forward to this season. The Tigers will be vastly improved with nearly everyone back and tons of hard work and a dose of determination to go along. No ones know how this will translate into wins and losses but they will be in most if not all of their games.
With a new football facility just around the corner......these are exciting and promising times in Tiger land. First game is just over a month away.

Please expound your last statement. With the budget problems of the WSD and the depressed
economy of the area, where will the funding come from? I understand there is land available
at the hilltop school site, and I understand the costs of maintaining a seperate atheltic campus in town,
but can Waverly afford a new facility at this time and would it spell the end of Hawhee's Palace?

Re: 2011 Waverly Football
From what I've been told Hawhee's Palace will remain and the football field will also remain at the same location. The Waverly BOE has been working on this issue for some time. Most of the funding will come from private funds. That's the manner in which most schools get new sports facilities. I know they have several significant pledges and are actively seeking others. Anyone can contribute.
The location has always been up for debate. Regardless of the choice you aren't going to make everyone happy. I'm just glad we're getting a new sports complex. The current one is in deplorable condition. One of the worst in Southern Ohio.
Don't quote me on any of this but I believe it's pretty accurate.

Re: 2011 Waverly Football
Does anyone know if Dylan Dyke is playing? He would be a tremendous asset to the team. For this kid to finish 2nd in the state in the shot put as just a sophomore tells me is quick, has good feet and is skilled. With his size (6' 3" or 6'4' and 320?) his potential on the field would be unlimited.
I know Dylan is receiving interest from colleges for his accomplishments in the shot, but could you imagine the attention he would garner from football programs across the country if he decides to strap on the helmet?

Re: 2011 Waverly Football
I was going to ask the same thing about Dylan (and others) but didn't want to mention names on this site, things do tend to get out of hand. Dylan would be a HUGE asset to the football program, as would a few others. Last I heard they weren't playing but I haven't been there.
Did they have the 7 on 7 last night?

I'm looking forward to meeting the team Sunday. Until they start hitting we won't know but I'm hearing there's great promise on the O-line.
