I think the ref just gave the wrong signal , the kid did carry it, but he signaled walk.

yeah ,,the one ref signaled a charge 2 times , when they were both blocks, he got the calls right , but wrong signals
Re: Final: Portsmouth 64 Wheelersburg 56
if you were watching the refs you had no idea what the call was going to be. good game to watch. it was trully a game of quarters. pirates won 1 and 3. trojans won 2 and 4 and the game. big three point shot towards the end of 4th by evans.

A carry is no longer a carry it is now considerd a travel, rule was changed about 4 years ago.ManitouDan wrote:I think the ref just gave the wrong signal , the kid did carry it, but he signaled walk.

That's funny, because at the Ironton Classic, Clay was called for carrying the ball or turning over the ball, with the old carry hand gesture 3 times in their game against St Joe. The only three times I saw it called in 5 games, and they all do that now. It's basically a hesitstion dribble, and could be called 10 to 15 times a night. Just a shame it was called last night. I would have loved to saw that game come down to a shot at the buzzer.

Good game. One worth the price. Basketball players from South Webster, Notre Dame and Clay were at this one. Portsmouth loves the three pointer, even with a 9 point lead with 8 seconds left. Len Collins did a classy thing in grabbing the rebound and running out the clock. Credit to his Dad the coach. Yes Evans had the hot hand but McKinley controlled the boards with 21 points, lots of rebounds and good foul shooting when needed. With PHS's size and quick guards, they should take it to the paint more.
Credit to the Burg. They never quit. Stegman has the best postup moves in the county. Shankwiler is just an athelete all around. Wasn't afraid to take it inside and score. Better teamwork from the Burg. PHS needs to improve it's ball movement. Maybe with their guard in waiting
after his suspension, they may improve in that area. Looking forward maybe to a rematch come tourney time.

ManitouDan,
You still have traveling and still have carrying(palming). Both are still violations

Very proud of the Trojans on the win.......after being dominated for nearly a decade by the Pirates (losing 10 of 12), PHS has put together a nice 3 game winning streak vs. the Burg to cut the WHS lead in the series to 16-15. Considering how Wheelersburg hit a bunch of 3's vs. Waverly, I thought the Trojans defended the perimeter very well.
Wayne Evans' 35 points I believe was the most by a Trojan since Darnell Lisath scored 38 vs. Greenfield McClain in the 1994 district final (a 77-67 Trojan win)........Tory Horne scored 34 last year vs. Chillicothe and Forrest Johnson tallied 33 vs. Jackson.
Wheelersburg has a nice basketball team, and I think Andy Stegman can play college ball for someone.......he showed the ability to hit from the perimeter, he drove to the basket, and scrapped on the boards. Brandon Shankwiler had some nice drives to the bucket........I think the Burg will do no worse than 14-6 in the regular season.
