Notre Dame is improving and has some good underclassmen. The Noel kid can play. However I think West will be too quick for Notre Dame and too physical down low. They have some good players as well.
Prediction West 62
Notre Dame 51

Nice game for the young Titans.
Up by 27 at the half probably surprised a few people.
They will need to rest their legs and get ready to go at it again tonight vs Coal Grove.
West played a better second half. It is just tough when you get in a hole in the beginning.

West got in foul trouble early, I think we only had 8pts. and 10 fouls. I thought refs were alittle more critical of Wests players. But Notre Dame played lights out in the first half. They came ready to play, and executed their plays very well. They also shot very well from the freethrow line. S.O.C.1 should be between them and Eastern, Clay should also be strong. West came out playing much better in the second half. But to big of hole to dig out of. West will get better, about half of our team plays football. Just need some more gym time.

I'd say just about everyone on Notre Dames team plays football since they have so few boys to choose from so that shouldn't make a difference.

I would have to agree with Burg_Grad_77..It shouldn't have been a problem for West to be prepared for Notre Dame..Football had nothing to do with it

The problem with West football players. Is that they only play basketball, during basketball season. I know that most teams in our area have alot of football players, playing basketball. Very few of the football players even stop weightlifting during basketball season at West. This is just one of the challenges facing Coach Bradford. I do think that he has them headed in the right direction. Rome wasn't built in a day. And this may even be alittle harder than that, at West.
Re: Portsmouth West @ Notre Dame 12-3-10
I heard that Coach Triplett is departing as the football coach and he was definitely dedicated to his kids lifting which has made the program what it is,but lifting in noway hurts the basketball program..Athletes are athletes and will perform if motivated in the right way with the right coaching.West definitely has athletes maybe not pure basketball players but they should be more competitive than we are and not lose to divisional schools such as Notre Dame and other schools their size. The last winning season West had was about 3 years ago when Coach Kitchen had the program and wasn't hired back.I guess West wanted the home town boy

I would be surprised if any teams didnt lift during the season. The players lifted during the season when i played. That was a long time ago. So i dont think lifting has much to do with the struggles at west. In years past some of their best athletes didnt play hoops. They only play football. This has a much to do with the lack of success at west as anything. JMO

Ok I give up. I guess West just sucks. I did give credit to Notre Dame, for playing an excellent game. And said they would be a contender for the S.O.C.1 championship. And according to all of you experts West has no logical excuse for losing to Notre Dame. Did Notre Dame play better than they actually are? Or did West get homerd with penalites? Notre Dame will be really happy, if they can keep playing like they did in the first half against. Did Notre Dame just get lucky? You guys tell me.Larry Bird wrote:I would be surprised if any teams didnt lift during the season. The players lifted during the season when i played. That was a long time ago. Larry what athletes are you talking about, that has skipped basketball? Are they any now that should be playing? Besides Pendelton, I can't think of any. And if he wasn't hurt, we would have beat Notre Dame. And went further into the playoffs. And would have won the S.O.C. 2 football title. GUARANTEED!

There is no need to bring our football team into the basketball threads. I feel bad for Pendelton but we have to move on with what we have on the team. One of our man problems down at West is the kids and community could give a hoot about basketball. They do it to be doing something in the winter time. It is hard to pick the ball up in November and think that you are going to be that good, you have to give it a little practice during the whole year.Black@Orange wrote:Ok I give up. If we don't cut down on the turnovers we are looking at a real LOOOOOOOONG year. We have some athletes out there to stay in some ball games. If we can cut down on the turnovers early we will stay in a few more ball games. But when you turn the ball over early and let the other team get on in transaction you are going to get down real far early just like we did the other night. It is hard to win a ball game when you only score 6 points in the first quarter with probably 10 turnovers. Also we need to find a go to shooter. All the players seem to be a little timid and afraid to shoot the ball, if you are open start shooting a few of them. We don't need to be passing the ball and dribbling the air out of the ball when it is on our side. We have some young kid that can step up and provide us some scoring also, but it is a little early so let them get a little more adjusted to the Varsity pace. I hope we can cut down on the turnovers and knock down some shots.
GOOD LUCK SIDER BASKETBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
